This depends on other conditions being good as well, like being bike/pedestrian friendly and reasonably safe. There's no amount of new homes they could build that would revitalize Houston's downtown because it sucks. Most of

What's the first thing people / developers do after houses are wiped out by a flood in a floodplain? Build more houses in the same spot. It is pretty common still, in Houston, for people to openly disclose if their house didn'

There was a post on HN recently with a workaround these apps are using. I don't have it handy but I'm sure you can find it if you look.

It is really simple. Stop buying HP products and any others with shady business practices. For years Brother laser printers have been recommended on HN (except that one time they weren't). Just buy one and forget about your printer. Pe

I've used both LineageOS and GrapheneOS and the latter would have been my choice for security purposes as its entire focus is on privacy and security.

I write a lot of Rust code and, outside of performance optimization with Release builds, I've had next to no issues with iterative compile times, even on fairly large projects. Honestly it feels like a bit of a meme at this point. My C

Yea, that existed, but it got even worse after the code was released. There are many examples of issues that most likely resulted from the leak. For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/rbpyh0/t

When the TF2 code was leaked, it resulted in new vectors of attack on the servers being found and the development of bots that are still ruining the game.

The annoying part are all the tipping-adjacent restaurants trying to get 'in' on tipping. Like burger joints and pizza carryout defaulting to 15% tips at checkout. I could see it eventually going the way of internet advertising..

Food calories / caloric consumption, as an idea, are a gross, erroneous oversimplification of bodily processes to the point of being bunk science.

An appeal to complexity isn't really helpful. The human body is complex but the causes of widespread obesity aren't, IMO.

Calories as a concept is bunk science. It was since the beginning. A better generalization is "garbage in, garbage out" (qualitative).

It is the fat profile of seed oils that is the problem, at least in my investigations. We are consuming certain fats in very high quantities now that we never did historically.

Yea, whatever ends up working for you. I've done low carb diets, and they worked for me up until they didn't. I haven't been able to sustain them for over a couple of years at a time.

No, I've experimented with diet for over two decades, this isn't some new realization. Also, as I mentioned, I'm eating more calories now, not less. Calories are bunk as an idea anyway, so that point is moot.

Anecdotal but it was simple for me. The cause was seed oils and sweeteners and they are in most processed foods. I stopped eating them and then, a few months later, I stopped gaining weight. Instead my body now seems resistant to gaining w

I'm no Elon fan, but why does essentially everyone in these threads automatically assume he is wrong? Has no one here worked at companies where there was more dead weight than talent? Where 80% of the work being done is by 20% of the p
