The main benefits for me: - I have three control planes, not one, for about 20 x86-64 and 24 arm64 cores and ~160GB of RAM across 7 nodes. For much the same reason as my NAS uses raidz2, I don't have to drop everything and fix the univ

Because when your docker server gets smoked, what happens? If you're using Swarm or Nomad or k8s, there's an argument there. `docker run` isn't. I've very recently moved over to a home k3s cluster--a couple old desktops

RPi3A is also great too, for sure. More that 3D printers, even during Klipper motion planning, doesn't require much grunt. I see a lot of people who overspent on RPi4's, even, when they just could've used something with an H6

Yeah I should have constrained it to new-stock stuff that isn't a repurpose of other hardware. You have absolutely been able to find stuff if you wanted to work for it. I don't really, so it's not on my radar. Alder Lake stuf

I have a Klipper-driven print farm. For a 3D printer controller, you do not need a Raspberry Pi 5. Or a Raspberry Pi 4. You can use a $30 Le Potato and be fine with it.

That wasn't at all why people got mad. The unilateral claims (perceived or otherwise) on prior releases of the engine, claiming that the platforms (e.g., Microsoft) would just pay it--it was badly messaged, badly considered, and the in

Price-competitive NUCs are generally very old Celerons (J4105 and similar), which are CPU-competitive with the RK3588S but generally a little slower. Those NUCs also generally have glacially slow GPUs and poor hardware acceleration for stuf

The Orange Pi 5 series offers similar in a relatively small board factor too, though, as well as stuff like HDMI video capture, built-in or modular eMMC, Rockchip's new(-ish) NPU, dual 2.5Gbps Ethernet, and M.2 support. It's a big

I had symmetrical gigabit FiOS in 2010. (I still have it today.) Even if I didn't have symmetric gigabit, I also was working with 720p and 1080p video up until about 2013 and not 6K. Requirements shift over time.

I think most people don't realize how slow SD cards are compared to conventional flash, too. When you put apps on a SD card on Android, it's always been dog slow. And you're at the mercy of the manufacturer to put a reasona
