you can't be selectively offline to people (you have to un-friend them) It looks like you can, the same way you can be offline in regular FB chat: by choosing a Friend List that contains the friend, and making yourself offline to that lis

Facebook has "circles" but they are called "groups." I think Friend Lists is what you may be referring to. They need to make the feature easier to use/find, and they need to make the News Feed more sensitive to these.

He makes one very good suggestion: At the very minimum, Dropbox needs to have a thorough security audit from an independent group to ensure that it has the processes in place to back up those promises. Call it security theatre, a waste of

I think it's unfair that under 13s aren't allowed to use Gmail. But being able to use email, code in Python and use Powerpoint, doesn't mean he has the maturity to use social networking. The internet is a cruel place, and hysteria about onl

I think that setting visibility of pictures and status updates to "friends only" should hide them from non-friends. Yes, I meant lists, not groups.

I don't know how those people with super high friend counts manage to eke any utility out of FB I don't have a super high friend count on FB, but I've set up privacy levels on the friend groups I have created. I'll usually accept a friend

I don't know how much code Sal has written, but, depending on the project/coding standards, I've seen a lot of code with filename comments at the top. It's not really an indicator of experience or skill.

I'm saying that Sal violated basic programming practice in one of the simplest 10 line programs that can be written. This is a canary. I didn't think that the video (now dead) was particularly good, but I think that this is a bit of an ov

When you teach basic math, do you start with introducing the student to proof theory I know that it isn't your main point, but I when Sal inevitably moved to CS, I was hoping he would start with theoretical CS first. He seems strongest on

If they feel threatened enough by Circles, I have no doubt that they will make it more visible, and available on all platforms. That said, it's surprising how few people, even tech savvy ones seem to know about the functionality even though

The slow release of Gmail accounts was an example of a great hype-building process. OTOH the product was groundbreaking (they offered a huge amount of storage compared to competitors), and it isn't 2004 anymore.

Google recently forced users to make their Profiles public, and announced that it was going to delete private Profiles. If Google+ requires a Profile, then count me out.

Why not group your friends, and restrict your posts by default to people you actually care about? The rest won't be aware they are even being filtered.

Google does have powerful friend grouping features, and you can hide your information/posts/photos/etc from any category of friends you want. You can hide them from specific friends, and you can hide individual items in the same way. And th
