Some do a flat fee, others do a weight based fee (which is logical for offsetting road repair costs), CA does a value based fee. Value based is definitely the option to get as much money as possible out of citizens.

It does feel like another attempt to milk the middle class by classifying them as "rich". We should stop treating productive people like doctors, trades people, engineers, small business owners, etc. who have worked their way into

Beyond walkable just removing the constant noise and air pollution would have an instant positive affect on mental health.

Hard disagree, unless you pursue a super niche position doing a specific technical task you are going to have to become really really good at reading docs and learning how to cobble stuff together out of cloud services and JS libraries. Far

I was fighting with someone about this exact concept for hours. They kept exclaiming how amazing it was that we (as specific people) were born and how infinitesimal the odds were.

Uhh if you are a senior PM and you want to make >100k you should... apply to senior PM roles that pay >100k? There are a ton out there, just spoof up your resume and start applying. High level PMs at FAANG make at least 200k base + a

Mexican food seems pretty subjective to me at this point. You probably just associate LA style with “good”. I like tiny $5 artisan tacos sometimes, a giant sloppy burrito from a food truck sometimes, I even get in the mood for chipotle occa

Have you been in an adult relationship? It is a huge challenge and every little aspect of both individuals will get dragged up and dealt with. Tools for maintaining intimacy and fending off resentment are crucial to any kind of longevity. I

It doesn't seem like a bad way to go. If the company is stable enough and you can cash in your engineers salary for 25 years and have crazy good job security. Seems better than being a 50 year old trying to wow a 28 year old interviewe

Seriously, the google generative AI actively suggests completely inaccurate things. It has no ability to say: "I don't know", which seems like a huge failing. I just asked "what does the JS ** operator do" and it ma

The exception to that is highly social games. I did genuinely feel a sense of accomplishment when me and 4 friends would crush another team in league of legends. Or the old World of Warcraft raids involved coordinating 40 people and felt me

Alcohol is bad but lets not pretend that legal booze is the same as allowing something like Oxycontin. If they sold Oxy in grocery stores the country would probably fall to pieces in a few years.

Good point. You can expand this to every issue facing society, view it through the lens of a politician trying to grab as many votes as possible and our current state makes sense.

Got a decent position after ~4 months of looking. ~120 applications, ~10 interviews. It was nuts, my resume and skillset have never been stronger but this was my hardest search by a huge margin. Referrals were not working, bulk applications

It does feel kinda overwhelming. You really need to run to stay in place, and it is more and more about setting up a brittle chain of config files than having deep knowledge of a single languages best practices.
