Sounds more like you don't use computers the way you used to. I use my computer for software development and music creation. Both experiences are orders of magnitude better on OS X then on Windows 10. On the rare chances I get to pl

You could have had a repl going in about the time to took you to compose and write this statement. I'm not saying that to be snarky, but I'm just pointing out how quick it actually is. brew install leiningen lein repl <begin le

What do you think the time delta would be between building it in JS vs Clojure would be? Just curious.

Clojure being driven by the needs of Rich/Datomic may be true, I can't say for sure, but in my experience clojure development is driven by the need to solve real-world problems . I agree, if it was more community oriented there w

I think you're "seeing what you want to" in his comments. One of the reasons I appreciate clojure and the community so much is that it's one of the few that doesn't actually troll things. If anything, the community

This is an extremely important post. Thanks for writing it. Lots of learnings I wish the 22 year old me would have read. :)

It should be noted that TDD specifically means writing tests before you write application code. For example, at our shop, we don't require devs to do TDD, however we require test coverage. I don't think anyone would argue that wri

These days I code in immutable, functional, objectless clojure for the most part, so I'm with you 1000% on reducing complexity. The easiest line of code to maintain is the one that doesn't exist. :)

Why in the world is this downvoted? Om/CLJS has some of the nicest bindings for React. It's extremely valid that if you are frustrated with React that you could experiment with the clojurescript ecosystem to see if that would

We've also benefitted from moving from a monolith to SOA-esque services. IMO, The thing that DHH is failing to mention is that Monoliths work great when your application looks something like Basecamp . Basecamp, while a great tool, i

Penalizing the language because the people who use it really like the creator seems like an odd way to approach languages. That said, I will say that Rich's talks and his approach resonate with me in ways that none of those other guys

Props for writing this. Often times I want to tell my (different but similar) story, but never do. I don't know why. It probably has to do with a number of the points you make in the article, so you are a couple steps ahead of me.

Sadly, if you live in the states, you are likely correct to feel that way. I haven't had many racial incidents in the tech workplace, but I have had enough to understand that it definitely could be held against you in the long term.

Saying all of greater boston benefits from the big dig is equally disingenuous. I technically grew up in greater boston and I live a 45 minute drive from Boston with no traffic. With traffic that can be 90 minutes. I live a 10 min drive

Maybe check out clojurescript. Lots of React/Flux/Redux/Elm like ideas in there, you'll get exposure to clojure proper. That said, maybe stick with elm. The only way to make the thing you love blossom is by promoting a

I worked in java for 6 years before moving to clojure. Your experiences don't remotely reflect mine, I can't think of a single reason I'd ever choose java over clojure anymore (as tooling matures) but I appreciate you taking

It was actually a huge letdown for me too. C.S. Lewis described Turkish Delight in a way that made me think that it didn't even exist, like it was some perfect candy that was unattainable. One day, also in my 20s, I stumbled upon it i

I think most of your issues really come down to not embracing or understanding a proper clojure(script) workflow and/or not really understanding the tooling that currently exists. I double checked the date of this article to make sure
