Do they? I think exactly the opposite is true - if you ask any sufficiently wealthy person, they’d need a team of people working for a bit to arrive at a very hazy net worth number. Private stock is extremely illiquid and doesn’t usually ha

I think the previous version of this lacks the arrestors, unfortunately, wonder if they can be retrofitted. Thanks for sharing your take!

Ah yeah, unfortunately I think we have the version before they added fire suppression, but at least it’s a more relaxed chemistry. Thanks for the analysis!

Where would you put this battery in that trenchcoat gamut? Inside a server rack, fwiw. https://signaturesolar.com/eg4-lifepower4-v2-lithium-battery... Was definitely one of the harder parts of our solar install to get comfo

I’m part of a volunteer group that lobbies congresspeople about climate change, and there’re at least a few examples of it making a very obvious difference (for example, one republican member of congress started the conservative climate cau

Revenue neutral carbon taxes with all income dividended back out per capita are really the move here. It’s also one of the few really promising ways to tackle climate change effectively.

Ah, but proponents also want to make it difficult for you to leave with your money. Capital controls are very seductive, even though they’re very authoritarian.

No, look up prop 13, it heavily incentivizes sitting on land and never triggering a valuation reset. It’s a massive wealth transfer from the newcomers (who tend to be younger) to those who’ve lived there longer.

Presumably there’d be regular missions, so there’d be relatively little additional planning for a given moon trip, similar to how there’s a lot less planning/paperwork that goes into a Falcon 9 launch these days than there was for any

Lunar seems more convenient for debugging colony creation than Martian, since the shipping time from Earth will be a whole lot shorter. Projects are a lot harder when trips to the hardware store take months rather than days. I think Starshi

Ways that have no realistic way of happening aren’t better ways. Obviously we don’t send a group without making it not certain death first. But the person I was responding to said that it would be reliant on Earth, which, yeah, you can’t re

I’m not sure about that, I think the current setup is an artifact of human limits, which an immortal shared ML model doesn’t share. Also, cross-disciplinary knowledge is frequently incredibly helpful (if rare, because currently it’s the int

I’m guessing there’s going to be cuts there, too - Musk spoke recently that drone warfare is the very clear future of war, and I’m guessing that the shift to that will involve cutting down on a lot of legacy programs.

Yep, exactly this. There's been a boom in Montessori-labeled schools, but there are comparatively few real ones. Partly, it's very hard to find real Montessori teachers, so the ones that aren't accredited don't have many

Well, I guess there’s also sandpaper, cards, glass, beads, other types of boxes/latches, but certainly nothing “collecting data”. At least not in the AMS accredited Montessori school we helped run.

I'm imagining something like Solaria in Asimov's The Naked Sun (part of the Robot series). The world is divided up by a tiny human population, each with a huge estate with thousands of robots serving them.

Brilliant summary, thanks. I'm interested in #4, is there anywhere you know of to read more about that? I don't think I've seen that described except obliquely in eg sayings about the relationship between genius and madness.
