If I understood correctly, that was private funding, and he was just taking credit for a business/private investment deal?

Guessing SMRs are a ways off, any thoughts on the container-sized microreactors that would stand in for large diesel gens? My impression is that they’re still in the design phase, and the supply chain for the 20% U-235 HALEU fuel is in its

That was for two chargers, not one. And normal outlets give plenty of range overnight, it’s just a luxury to be able to charge faster when you want.

Interesting, we got that charging speed off of a normal US 1.5kw outlet (120v, 12 amps). Don’t most European standard outlets put out more than that?

I think this underestimates how popular TikTok is with 20/30 year olds.

I’d assume the concern is more swaying public opinion, sowing division to make us incapable of unified political effort, or even to destabilize us, things like that, not so much infiltrating networks - they already manufacture much of that

Fair. I think that was for HLS rather than the launch systems, but I guess if it’s already been disbursed, it’s probably all commingled. But that still means it’s not just taxpayer money, it’s mostly theirs. They’ve been raising equity roun

They're blowing up their own money, unless you still count it as being the taxpayer's after the government pays them for launch services.

We need a high per-ton carbon tax, with all revenue dividended out per-capita to offset the inflation. This would eliminate the green premium on a great number of clean alternatives and avoid the problems of the government picking where to

I also saw mention somewhere that this is V2 of Starship upper stage? Somewhat longer, and I’m sure a bunch of other changes to enable mass simulator deployment.

Just being able to rank domains (and nuke the ones that are usually spam) is enough to make it worth $10/mo for me. This is a tool you’re using constantly, so even small time savings per use adds up to a lot.

I normally really like this blog, but what’s all this noise about? They’ve done the hard part of lining their entire foundation up, now all they have to do is build the applications on top, and let others do so as well. In the meantime, the

For #2, most proposals I’ve seen aim to put domestic products on a level playing field with products from countries without an equivalent tax with a “border adjustment”, a sort of tariff that’s based on the carbon intensity of the product (

The thread is about ads in language model results. Do you think OpenAI is going to resist putting ads into their results for the next few years? I hope they do, but I wouldn’t say it’s a given. You definitely won’t get (intentionally inject

Well, I work on this stuff, but I’m mostly sharing this to spread awareness that you don’t need a multimillion dollar rack of nvidia gpu machines to do inference with surprisingly powerful models these days. Not that long ago, you’d need a

Have you used one of the larger qwen2.5's? I've found the quality to be pretty good. In this case, I wouldn't say it's cheaper, the machine I'm talking about clocks in around $5k. But it's not going to start in

Just a reminder that you can run a fairly capable model like qwen2.5:72b locally on an 128 gig M4 Max Macbook Pro.

Re tire dust, you can avoid living near major roads, and running a hepa filter anywhere you spend significant time. Our old apartment’s balcony used to get a coating of black dust on everything within a week of wiping things down, since we

If it wasn’t that, wouldn’t it have been a lightning strike, or something else? Fundamentally, the problem is that the houses were in an area that has become incredibly flammable. It’s not all PG&E’s fault.

Good advice, except that I’d try whenever possible to get AA/AAA devices rather than button cells. Not only do the button cell devices burn through batteries, causing a maintenance headache if you have a non-trivial number of devices,
