Are you so sure that storage is so expensive? It’s been coming down the cost curve extremely quickly, such that opinions formed even an year ago are severely outdated, and it’s now solar+storage that’s being favorably compared to replacing

That's actually what I've been doing, but sites that very clearly should have an RSS feed (specifically, our local governments' event calendar pages), don't, so I thought there might be some other route/heuristic&#x

Great tip on the <link>, thanks a lot! Also the pointer to FreshRSS, I might end up running an instance of that in our basement.

Awesome, thanks! Especially for the pointers to those rssifiers. For the first question, I should clarify that I'm hoping to just ingest these RSS feeds myself in various scripts. But yeah, makes sense that most of the good feed reader

Sorry for the random question, but I’ve been trying to get more into RSS, and figure it’s worth asking someone who has a lot of experience - is there a reliable way to find an RSS feed for a given site, assuming it has one? Or is it a set o

Yep, my mom worked in the pediatric ER, she never let Tylenol/acetaminophen in the house, my understanding is that she saw way too many cases of liver damage and death.

Heh yes, it's not as controlled, but there are repeated tasks like analysis, communicating, intuiting things, creating things, etc. And the tasks have more variability, but if you're better at these skills, you'll tend to do

Ability vastly increases your luck surface area. A single poker hand has a lot of luck, and even a game, but over long periods, ability starts to strongly differentiate peoples' results.

If you inflate the currency, GDP goes up, and nominal debt stays the same. That’s the government’s current playbook, with its massive fiscal deficits.

Come on, don't be uncharitable, language isn't inherently necessary for models like LLMs, you can train something similar on visual inputs. Fruit flies have neurons that pass around ~probabilities/signal strengths to each oth

True if you look at the cost to build the plant, but it’s hard to colocate enough solar with heavy users, land near there is expensive, and transmission capacity is pretty hard to get built, so something very power dense with a small footpr

Good thing it only takes a couple dudes with impact drivers and a truck to tear that down in under a week. Even a hand truck is good enough to cart a few of them away at a time.

Yeah, I've seen this with our own solar installation - when the grid frequency dips even a bit, our house cuts itself off from the grid, including whatever power it was feeding back. It seems like a recipe for instability - grid is ove

Yeah, it's pretty eye opening to see how much more power our home's solar array puts out during the summer vs. the winter. It's like 3-4x, on average, while our power demand is actually highest in winter, due to the higher de

This is based on the open-source HuggingFace/LeRobot SO-101, so it'll probably be possible to fall back to that. Or you can just get an SO-101. But I think this is attempting to draft on that ecosystem, and this is cheaper than Al

I guess I should clarify that it's open source, and seems to be essentially forked from HuggingFace's SO-101, so it's probably not too hard to fall back to that stuff (with fewer features).

I don’t think they are regressive, if you make it revenue neutral, because carbon footprint is heavily correlated with spending. Everything you buy has a good amount of embodied carbon. Revenue neutral is actually redistributive.

Not an expert, but my understanding is that the challenge there is that a big cost in industrial production is the initial capital outlay for the equipment, and oftentimes to pay that back reasonably, you need to run the equipment nonstop.
