You're absolutely right! In my experience, we've had more bad than good with URL changes. The interesting part is that often a "URL cleanup" would result in a quick "boost" in traffic/rankings, but would c

As someone who has worked on the tech side of sites powered entirely by organic SEO, I've definitely seen the same penalties occur when cosmetically "cleaning up" URLs or code. In the author's case, they moved to sub dom

We should sync up! I've cracked this similar isomorphic nut myself in a similar manner and will be giving 2 talks on it as well. Ember's advancements on this are sorely needed, as anyone doing this today has to solve a lot of har

I've gone back to a single screen. It turns out, using tools like SizeUp/Spectactle/etc. were all I needed to balance the two tasks I spend 90% of my time multitasking between - coding and the output. When I had a second moni

There have been a lot of articles about ShellShock, but this site is the most straightforward I've found for developers (not familiar with Bash, security, etc.) to test & fix Bash.

I tested click through rates for blog posts on the front page of Google with and without dates in the URL: - 2+ year old articles (2012), removing the date in the URL tripled traffic. - for recent, same year (2014), date removal was a marg

While attending @ ng-conf, I wrote this [grunt-angular-modularize][1] which would, based on file path, automatically wrap your Angular files with RequireJS/AMD or Browserify/CommonJS code. The end-result gets ran through RequireJS

I love the d3 graphs produced by the New York Times. This data could be presented a myriad of terrible, excel-friendly ways, but wouldn't be nearly as expressive or clear. These uses for d3 consistently show that clear datavis can be a
