Please take advantage of your job mobility. Changing jobs in our line of work isn't as simple as flipping a switch, but you still are in so much demand. There's no need for you do engineering work you're dissatisfied with.

For anyone who finds this to be a plausible reason, I did too. Then I realized that a more transparent company would simply tell me that I they're cutting the interview short.

No, quite the opposite. It's an old trick for job searching. It doesn't originate in tech. It's one reason why people go to networking events in their industry. My impression of what reaching out means today is a chat over co

I've only been to two hacker spaces, one in SF and one in HK. Both had hardware there to hack on, workshops for using various hardware tools, workshops on security, biohacking, etc. I preferred my own hardware, but I found the commun

Yes, I've met many people who "just want to network." Based on past evidence, less than five percent of the people I met from meetups became longer lasting friends. (Those are probably great odds when compared to my friendshi

If I may make a suggestion, try exploring social hobbies and friends will come. I did meetups for a while and met some cool programmers. After a while, I didn't want to talk software as much in my free time, but one guy invited me ou

Yep, that's one of two places here. The swing dance scene in HK and Korea is much larger. Once I'm a little more settled in my new job, I'd like to go dancing in both places.

I'm in my thirties and felt as you did until I found the right social hobby (swing dancing). Now, my biggest social concern is balancing: 1. Being kind and open to new people I meet. 2. Dedicating enough time to the people I know. 3.
