Buy a 10 year old cheap Honda and drive it until it dies. Buy it from a person. Flash the $90K you saved at the Tesla owners as you drive by.

In university I ran into a lot of people who did this stuff to get grades. Many straight up acted like tweakers. Super fast speech, tiny pupils, twitchy, sweaty, etc. I didn't realize it was so popular until like 30% of my classmates w

This sounds to me like the place is wacky for "culture fit" or whatever. If you go for remote gigs I can't imagine it gets beyond 2 or 3 interviews, mostly technical, since they won't ever hang out with you anyway.

I took a year of sociology in college. One bit of wisdom that out professor gave us was how arranged marriages happen in countries where there is immense pressure to conform to traditional gender roles. He literally described these societie

Doesn't a person get more EM radiation from living under high tension lines than from a phone anyway? If there are no cancer clusters around them, I don't see how this idea ever got legs in the first place.

Not dumb at all, an area of open research actually. The answer is that this is not known and you will be math-famous if you figure it out.

I think there is a subtlety here that makes this fail. Normal does not imply that any finite substring exists, just that the probability of such a string existing is uniformly distributed within the space of possible values. There isn'

I dunno, I've met a lot of profs who take the attitude "if you want your name on crap, be my guest" when it comes to reviewing papers. They might check for glaring errors, but rarely does anyone work through the results for c

I'm not really following. How does the fact that Unix timestamps are in terms of UTC affect whether leap seconds get incorporated into the timestamp or not? Do leap seconds work differently in UTC or something?

I'm just saying that U Penn, being an Ivy, has as much "reputation" as MIT, CalTech, etc. Until someone pipes up with some sort of proof that it is actually better (which I doubt it is), then why should U Penn's reputati
