500M MAU also implies that some are already paying. They need to extract 1$ more on average, not just get all of them to pay 1$ per month. This, I imagine is harder than assuming there are 500m users that pay nothing today.

The camping took place in 2016, almost 10 years ago. Could it be that you are referencing contemporary prices?

For constant time code, it doesn’t matter too much if data spills out of a cache, constant time issues arise from compilers introducing early exits which leaves crypto open to timing attacks.

The beauty of nix is that you can trivially build a custom installer - I do it all the time, for each different host. Since it is simple to do, you can choose to make trivial changes. You do not have to, but you definitely can.

I really do not follow what you are trying to convey here. If there are vulns, and you are using software from nixpkgs, there are tools to get yourself notified about vulnerable packages. If you want to run vulnerable software on-demand, yo

Yeah, but that is a used cars worth of apple equipment to do what one could do with a cheaper headset and an iPhone if not for software limitations.

…when compared to something like the Apple Vision Pro. Which, funnily enough, can't do any of what I ended up caring about. It can't fit in your pockets, and it's no more capable of "real" computing than an iPhone.

It's stupid to give out credentials over the phone, but it's stupider still to have a system where one's birth date is a credential that is supposed to remain confidential.

People sometimes know where they want to get, often that place can be described with buzzwords. They don't always know how to get there. Clueless managers often don't know how to get there, they might only have an inkling as to wh

Memory leaks are by far the least interesting class of defect that Rust helps with - leaking memory is safe.

I know that arguing that SSLKEYLOGFILE is all you need will just be a different version of the rsync/dropbox comment, but I do wonder under what circumstances is one able to strace a binary and isn’t able to make it dump session keys?

Memory allocation is unsafe, so any container in the stdlib end up using unsafe at some point. This does not mean that safe Rust is useless without unsafe - the utility of Rust is that it allows one to create sage interfaces around an unsaf

Sure, if we can agree that there exist courses for which we can agree that using an LLM to pass is a reasonable thing to do, would we also not agree that the course should be nuked from orbit?

15 minutes per wash is an hour, minute of transfering between one cylinder to the other one is 15x less. Multiply this by 4 washes, and we’ve spent an hour instead of 4 minutes.

Sure, I still plan abead of time, but it still takes more time. I don’t dry all of my washing in the dryer, the delicates are hung. But I do have better things to do than spend hours on laundry weekly.
