Oh, I'm in agreement, and should have made my point about this more clear. The reason I brought it up at all is that there are other external factors that influence a patients decision, or lack thereof, in choosing a CT surgeon for the

As an aside, there was a professor of mine in college that had a startup to apply an electric current through some rods and pins to stimulate osteoblast formation and therefore better osseointegration.

Oh, I see. I figured you were talking about the US due to the article. Your friend works one day a week?? That's awesome.

Seems like a bad example. All board certified cardiothoracic surgeons have to report their mortality rates from procedures (there are problems with that, but one could easily look this up). Not to mention most work for a hospital and theref

Agreed. There are around 80,000 medical students in any given year in the US. Assume that all of them pay $50,000 per year in tuition. That's maybe $4b per year. The costs of health insurance, diagnostic testing, pharmaceuticals, etc m

What sort of political commentary on nejm are you referring to? I usually only read articles if I find them elsewhere, so I don't know much other than that it is a well respected journal in the medical community.

I don't think tech disruption is necessary to reduce costs, a multidisciplinary approach could do something similar. Edit: apparently my comment never finished, lol. What I meant to say is that disruption could work, but I think that o

That's not why they're breathing suppressants...opioids work at a part in our brainstem that modulates our breathing rate, slowing it down. You still breath, just less times per minute. That can be really bad for obvious reasons.

I don't believe that the phone is slowing down to extend battery life. I believe it is because when batteries degrade, they can no longer supply the same max voltage they used to. This can lead to CPU instability, and CPU voltage requi

It's not cheap for me, as it is nearly half the amount I paid for my iPhone SE. At that point, I'd be much better off buying a newer phone. As for the battery only being reduced by 8%, I think that's a huge positive point for

I have a cs degree from a good private university but with a not so great cs program. I didn't learn anything more than the basics of c++ programming, as I felt that it would be best to do the bare minimum. Looking back, I truly wish I

I may be wrong, but this is only if you use CRISPR for modifying embryonic genes, right? If you induce somatic mutations/insertions/deletions, this wouldn't have the same effect of passing it down to offspring? Perhaps that&#

I'm going to reply to my own comment here as I think something needs to be said regarding my own opinion on this. I think that it's very obscure to patients as to what they might end up having to pay when they enter an ER. These c

Just out of curiosity, did she report this to the hospital itself? If I were placed in that situation, it would make more sense to go to a more impartial authority, such as the state medical licensure board.
