Very illustrative warning to other devs. Just because you're coding and building things, doesn't mean you're doing work, or that you're going to make any money. Most devs are salarymen because that's the best role t

Seems fair. All those guys who caused the 2008 crash, which actually hurt hundreds of millions of people, got sentenced too, so equality before the law and all that. Oh wait, actually they were "punished" by being bailed out with

This is why I think dev needs way stronger hierarchy. The typical flat hierarchies are trash for maintaining long term quality code and thus productivity. All juniors should have to PR everything through seniors. All mids should have to PR

JetBrains IDEs are great. Each update seems to be a windfall of "wow that's really useful" and "yeah I've always wanted that". But man I wish they'd improve the indexing. Pretty much the only thing that ca

Not really, I clearly stated "in some ways". As usual, people are hostile to thinking, and are far more concerned with getting their pearl clutching emotional blurts out. This thread is a classic case of that.

Precisely, people should refrain from informing on topics outside their area of expertise. Pretty rife in western companies, "too many cooks" etc, must be the democratic mindset that every voice counts equally.

A lot of companies are actively factoring this into their HR model. Their model is to hire fresh people and burn them out. Increasingly this is the direction western corporations are moving. Their ideal model is: place performance quotas ab

PHP is a fantastic language, and my personal favourite. It was the first language written with web serving in mind. It is packed with features due to all the adding to it over the years, meaning you can write code how you want, no how they

Analogies and metaphors are pointless. Whenever you use them, they'll just respond with their own counter metaphors they pull equally efficiently from their own rear ends, with a tone of indignation, implying you're trying to tric

The problem is treating this stuff in an "inheritance" rather than "composition" manner. Which is precisely how most managers think, AKA management fads. Instead of absorbing the concepts behind PP into the mamagement, t

You're right that abdication of responsibility by parents is the root cause of all of this. There's no criminal punishment for destroying your child's life as long as you don't use outright violence. But if parents took

This is an overly simplistic view of power. The man in the blue uniform with the gun is at the end of a very long chain of people. What happens, historically, when one group wields superior technology to another group? Who has the power? Do

Comes down to incentives. Why would the agency or SME dev care about the end user? Will they get rewarded if they do? Nope. Dev salarymen are concerned, rightly, with their careers. This is why they do stuff like make a brochureware website
