I moved to Moniker a couple years ago since there was so much praise for it on Slashdot. I didn't check out the new interface yet. I don't have that many domains, but if they're so interested in obliterating their core functi

Kei cars make perfect sense in Japan- the density in city areas, the lower speed limits (compared to the US), smaller house driveways which could probably fit two kei cars but not two "regular" cars. At some point I saw a house (i

I've got the Sony HDR-AS15. Liked the price, and the availability of a standard tripod mount on the waterproof case it came with. As for image quality, the output you get on the SD card doesn't match the capability of the sensor-

I'm seeing more and more bioinformatics-related positions in industry that are listing a PhD as a requirement. I'm currently trying to decide if it's worth it to do the PhD now (in Bioinfo or a strongly related program) or to

If you can say, what company? It sounds like a pretty interesting role- despite the frustration and difficulty of dealing with such code, turning that into something more generally useful/useable seems like it would be relatively fulfi

Agreed. The MDR-7506 is a "studio standard" for reference/monitor headphones in pro audio and video. The frequency response is not "enhanced" at the low end like the Beats and many other modern headphones. I don

That would be an amazing plan, and I hope it happens that way. Given current timelines for the self-driving cars, it seems like that would be a major gamble considering the number of factors in play and the elements out of their control (wh

Wow. We had an elective "electricity" class in high school (small K-12 school in US) and we basically went over Ohm's law and how to use a multimeter. Sounds like you had something closer to what first year EE majors get.

I think they were trying to run it under Mono, and it failed to complete most of the tests. Setting up IIS for a "real" test of ASP.NET MVC might be out of their intended scope.

I agree completely on the type system. When first starting with it, I was thinking "wow this is great, I don't have to worry about types and things just work". But then weird things start to happen, and you realize it's

Do you have any strategies for remembering what you come up with while you're out? Too many times I feel like I've had a great idea when I'm walking or hiking, only to sit down later and have no idea what it was. Or to not be

I wonder how this plays out in terms of long-term benefits. There's an established association between exercise and increased BDNF, but I don't think there's been any investigation as to if that effect is modulated by exercis

That's an amazingly comprehensive list. Would be great if there was a summary table, or some kind of more organized shorter form view. I'd never heard of Google Web Designer. Looks useful, going to try it out.

I have a friend who was thinking of starting a company a few years ago, but ended up joining a company as a salesman since that's what he could get. Maybe I'll see if he's heard anything about the growing startup culture.
