Congrats you guys on launching the beta. I've been following Cappuccino for a while and, while I'm still on the fence about it as a developer, it is certainly an impressive technical feat.

Agreed: memory management is easy if you stop thinking about it as reference counting and instead follow exactly what Zev just said. When I first got into ObjC I kept getting hung up on this idea of a "reference count" until someone on #iph

You're comparing Apples and Oranges a bit. OWL is formal framework that can be used to describe ontologies. Cyc is an attempt to create an ontology that describes the world. You are right that a lot of these "glob everything together" ontol

Sometimes a work is best appreciated as a meditation on a particular feeling , and the evolution thereof. Catch-22 was like that for me. It is the same humor, told over and over, but at the beginning of the book you're laughing while at th

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is one of the few books I've ever read where I practically celebrated when I finished because I didn't have to read it anymore. I read it (and forced myself to finish it) because so many people seem

Perhaps, but I think there is a much more practical and likely reason. It's just one that won't sell magazine articles: Harvard exists in a finite amount of space. Anyone who lives in Cambridge knows that Harvard, like many other city-schoo

Yeah this is good for everyone. However it might be bad for Flash's chances in MobileSafari, however. Apple wants to funnel people through apps, not web sites. If they can make the argument that the iPhone supports flash because you can c

I'll second that. Adobe wants to become an alternative platform for the iPhone. Right now it's Objective-C or the highway. I can't stand JavaScript (and therefore ActionScript) but, as an iPhone developer, watching this video made me think,

What is a "self-teacher"? The advantage of holding "fancy degrees" is usually that you have been exposed to a wide variety of viewpoints and insignt that self-taught people might have. People tend to study what they are interested in. Unfor

Shouldn't an RBF kernel be expected to perform better than a 2nd degree poly kernel since, technically, it is infinite-dimensional? (I.e., the radial basis function can be expanded into an infinite-degree taylor series) I think (not a ML ex

My TV was broken for about 4 months this spring and it was great; didn't miss it one bit. Now that it's back, I find myself watching ~1.5 hours a night again. I should just throw the thing out the window.
