I can only hope that this doesn't lead to another AI winter.

Nice. I do agree with this article; there really is no reason to emphasize coding any more than say math or music. Making things overtly fashionable makes everyone worse off.

Yes, but its not the features per se that make Clojure and Racket different from CL; any feature in these languages can be tacked on top of CL fairly easily by a half-decent hacker. What makes these languages different is their vibrant comm

Wouldn't this be bad reproducibility wise ? I mean, the language spec is essentially changing on a rolling basis.

If only Microsoft understood how undervalued the Rupee is, and made licensed versions of Windows cheaper. The starter edition is just a disgrace.

The sad thing is that, apart from whatever feedbacks are there in the environement, there are far to many economic feedbacks pushing our civilization towards greater environmental destruction. Do you think there will such a furore over Cana

Yes, and that is likely going to mean that, the Arctic is never going to freeze again (if this takes off). Goodbye, Polar bears, we like you, but we don't think your survival is in our "national interests". Meh.

It is very sad to see that this is the case. I'm becoming more convinced that Humans have become, as Attenborough put it, a plague on the Earth.

I'd assumed from reading the UNIX haters' handbook, that everyone who had used a Lisp machine would automatically hate UNIX :)

Bit late for that don't you think :) The Europeans (like the rest of the world), probably don't care much for lisp these days.

Doesn't look like the ISO standard is used much. Is there something useful in ISLisp which is not present in CL ? If there is no standard FFI interface, threading model..., then why bother ?

Apparently, that is also true of farmers in India. If only the government can bring in better policies to improve logistics; oh how poverty corrodes the soul of a society.

Yes, this is awful, but what more can you expect from the Middle East? On a more political note, did Al Jazeera, report on this ?

I guess this is why RMS dislikes binary blobs. Something like the Lisp machine, where you can access/modify OS source while it's running, would be dream come true in today's world.

Given all the backdoors and remote access stuff that are in place already, surely it should be a piece of cake to give parents some sort of remote access to their children's phones ?

This is rather silly isn't it ? I hardly think you can enforce good culture with negative operant conditioning. Why is it that Microsoft's silly ranking system is much criticized, while this is one is being applauded ?
