Wouldn't it make sense to switch to S-expressions for the underlying expression structure then (or some sort of automorphism between the two) ? You'll have the misfortune of calling yourself a Lisp, but then you'll have more

It appears that this post seems have been interpreted as questioning the design choice of infix vs prefix. I do think that infix is far easier to deal with, and that the array slicing syntax is a joy; what I meant was more about how picking

I do agree that infix syntax for math and array manipulation is more sane. This concerns input parsing (and can be taken care of in Common Lisp too - see the infix reader macro), this wasn't the point of my question. Did you find that

I understand, but those are hardly two conflicting things, are they ? Julia does seem to use some sort of Scheme in their implementation, wouldn't it make sense to allow S-expressions in the language (or is it allowed ?) ? Or maybe, th

Amen. Reminds me of Rabindranath Tagore's essay on Nationalism. Its really sad how the political interests (and madness) of the minority, governs the lives of common people for centuries afterwards.

I'm not implying that their expression data structure is in anyway deficient, but given that Julia is so lispy in the first place, why was a design decision made to abandon (the more readable/familiar ?) S-expressions ? Can one of

Is it just me who is sad for the early demise of what could've been a flourishing democracy in the Middle east (inplace of the silly regime that is now in power) ?

I haven't looked into Racket-math, but this post: http://lists.racket-lang.org/users/archive/2013-January/0560... makes me wonder if Racket is really up for non-toy numerics. In contrast, SBCL uses tagle

I agree with the lexical scoping part (explains more or less why I don't use Lush). Its a pity that there aren't any good numerical computing tools in Common Lisp/Scheme. Oh, well.

I love that Julia does so many things in so Lispy a way. I wish that other languages like Lush received similar amounts of attention.

A few implementations of Common-Lisp (like SBCL) do this already (not surprisingly), and I find it very useful to compile misbehaving programs (and having not being segfaulted upon). Once you verify function behavior with a bunch of test ca

What surprised me after coming from India to the US for grad school in Engineering, was the mad emphasis put on grades here. Back home, I either cared enough to do coursework extremely well, or give up on it (the consequences were usually

Does anybody know how good Common Lisp (one of SBCL, Allegro, Lispworks, CCL) is with multithreading whilst calling the FFI ?

There is some truth here; even the militantly dynamic Common lisp has a blisteringly fast implementation (SBCL).
