That would be a fine argument if these products were simply desktop apps. Reputation matters when it comes to web apps. If you don't trust MS with your data it's perfectly reasonable to avoid using any app that would send your data to th

This argument only makes sense when you ignore the second half of what Schmitt said: ...the reality is that search engines - including Google - do retain this information for some time and it's important, for example, that we are all subje

A company like Google saying that it isn't safe to do business in China has to at least annoy them to some degree.

I agree with Scoble on this one. This is about business, but it's not just about Google not being number 2 in China. It's about China not being a safe (or fair) place to do business. http://scobleizer.com/2010/01/12/why-now-google/

It does send a pretty clear message though that Google (one of the best known companies in the world) doesn't think it's safe to do business in China.

We have decided we are no longer willing to continue censoring our results on Google.cn, and so over the next few weeks we will be discussing with the Chinese government the basis on which we could operate an unfiltered search engine withi

I believe they're more worried about making sure paid apps can't be cracked and published outside the market. Also, from the Nexus One has 512 MB of flash, not 200.

That's fine if you only need _trackPageview. The Google solution provides more capabilities though. Also, be careful of using 3rd party solution. They don't always work correctly. The jQuery plugin for GA used to cache-bust every reques

Humans lead these companies. While they may have a fiduciary duty to their stock holders, no human decision is perfect. You can't ignore the role played by ego, altruism, greed, short-sightedness, and other human emotions. I'm not saying

Analytics has the same restrictions on storing or using PII (personally identifiable information). None of that gets linked with your account.

You can certainly writw apps for android phones without publishing them to the app store. In fact, unlike the iphone, you're free to distribute your app to as many people as you want (e.g. from your own web site).

Sync what? Google devices like the G1 and MyTouch sync over the network to Google's services (apps, contacts, email, etc.) and over USB for things like music. I expect the "droid" to be no different.

Their service is sending lots of traffic to your site. Their TOS is more of a spec than an agreement. It says that if you sell links, they may flag you as a spam site. I don't think that's unreasonable at all.

If you're using an analytics package that let's you send custom events, you could use something like this to find out how your page performs in the wild. With things like YSlow, you're only getting data for your location and your browser.
