If the alternative is that the spec is developed in a vacuum and takes longer to finish, I'll deal with some imperfect documents. Those will happen anyway.

That's a nice sentiment, but what does it really mean? Google would only be completely to blame for lost market share if its competitors were completely stagnant, which they are clearly not.

Yahoo and Bing are full service search engines. If they execute well, they could eventually become "Google killers". I think the premise of this article was that just because Blekko is in the search space, doesn't mean it's trying to repla

"What’s interesting is that the Chrome developers are actually doing this to workaround a completely unrelated issue involving the WebKit UI and it has even been filed as a bug. And to think we all thought they had done it deliberately to

This is a good way to come up with memorable, secure passwords, but it still requires either remembering a bunch of different passwords or being insecure and using the same password for multiple sites.

I would be more proud of living in a country where people didn't buy things they don't really need. Not to say that TV is one of those things -- I'm just saying that having the ability to show restraint is a admirable trait.

Video of people passing out Bing stickers in front of a Google office? Perhaps if there was audio of the Googlers' responses, this might be interesting, but otherwise this is just a (fairly boring) commercial for Bing.

Seems like disingenuous reporting. The article is clearly about Google providing gmail and apps hosting to universities. That's old news, and yes, it may make people more open to using Google services. But what does this have to do with C

It will be interesting to see how they standardize things like access to accelerometers, GPS and cameras. Palm currently has APIs for this, right? Anyone know how that works? Are they accessible from Javascript? [Edit: The Pre APIs do ap

Browsers other than Chrome also support HTML 5. Sure, support is partial at this point, but the standard hasn't even been released yet. What makes you think someone would develop an app that only works on Chrome?

"Well, we'd have to do both, right?" What I mean is that you have to decide which is worse -- dealing with IE6 until it dies naturally or doing something to help speed its death which might also annoy your customers.

"I'm sure 98% of the IE6 users on our site know that IE6 sucks." What are basing that on? To me, it seems like 98% of people don't even know they're using a browser.

You could detect IE6 and suggest an alternative browser. Many sites seem to be doing that these days. But then you have to also consider which is more expensive -- supporting IE6 or annoying your IE6 users with warning messages.
