The broader history of almost any profession/industry is similarly checkered. Engineering, farming, medicine, charity/aid… humans will do bad things whatever field they’re in.

A lot of the terms on this list describe things that simply don’t exist, so the implicit suggestion is to not make shit up. To, y’know, research what you’re writing about rather than just repeat mistruths.

Modern computers can easily mutate text thousands of times a second. Think about what a browser does instantly when you load a page. Also what would you need a database for? Why not write to a text file?

Seriously. I think Rust has a lot going for it, but I will say this: the type inference in Rust combined with its expressive type system can make sophisticated programs very hard to follow. My experience was with extensively reading the car

If you looked at the spec which provides simple, valid examples that work, then why would you spend hours writing different code wondering why it doesn’t work? The section you linked does explain it, btw. IfStmt = "if" [ Sim

Based on how passionate Mick is about his work, and how incredibly polished his Doom 2016 work was, I always found it unbelievable that he would have been responsible for the Doom Eternal mess. I had no idea the details would be this messy.

And he’s an artist and writing the music for a doom game is a huge creative opportunity for him. id clearly took advantage of that. Too many companies exploit artists who believe in their art. It sucks.

This would never happen with an indie studio because they wouldn’t have the deep pockets to legally strong arm the contractor. If both parties were small businesses then the threat of legal action from either side would keep them both form

Yeah absolutely and some of the most senior engineers I have worked with often made a point of asking seemingly obvious questions, to great effect. I think it’s a wonderful thing to demonstrate and I do the same.

I try not to frame things as “dumb questions” because I find that junior devs can feel a lot of their questions are “dumb” but really they’re often very good questions and (even if you lead by example) they can be hesitant to ask them. I th
