I suspect a lot of professionals that need decent compute find desktop PCs to sit in something of a no-man’s-land these days. Personally I find my MacBook Pro plenty powerful for most day to day activities, including testing out ideas. The

Haha yeah I was about to comment that I recall a period just after Word2Vec came out where embeddings were most definitely not underrated but rather the most hyped ML thing out there!

I have no personal insight into Confucius Institute censorship, but the reason I wrote “nation states” rather than China was because I agree, this applies in all directions.

I dislike the use of the world “offending” in the context of nation-stakes; it conjures this air of innocence around the state is if their primary failing is one of being overly sensitive. A better albeit wordy phrasing would be “for fear o

Yeah as far as I’m aware that’s the solution. Though then the market can’t use the deposit to make money for themselves, and needs to rely on other mechanisms like trading fees etc. So really it comes down to how much the market cares about

I worked at a prediction market startup for a while. Even completely rational prediction markets generally have a structural problem with events with likelihoods close to 1.0 or 0.0. This leads to cases where conspiracy type events have muc

If you’re willing, I’d love your insight on the “why one might want to do this”. Conceptually I understand embedding quantization, and I have some hint of why it works for things like WAV2VEC - human phonemes are (somewhat) finite so forcin
