I don't think its possible to avoid technical debt if you are making something new on a deadline. Just like real companies, bootstrapping sounds like the ideal situation but it's not the reality for most people.

This is pretty awesome! Very smooth experience. Have you seen d3.js? It has a similar force layout component, I'm curious as to your motivation for writing your own (although it looks and works very nice!)

I disagree, at least that pictures can't help with higher dimensional math. Well, regular pictures may not help so much but interaction really can. A lot of my understanding of higher level math depends on my programming ability to "touch"

We are (ab)using git in some fun ways. Our designers use branches we setup with git flow to develop and manage assets. We deploy from develop and master branches to dev and production servers. We also use the github api to allow the dynamic

It's obvious the author of the article hasn't learned anything from the digital revolution either, which is strange since they allude to it. 3D printers are in their infancy as others in this thread have stated, but they are starting with a

I feel like KA frees up some of the time constraints of traditional educators so that they can spend more time doing the motivation and the possible uses of a subject matter. I'm no teacher but if I was I'd much rather spend my time getting

I don't think you understood the parent's points... First, the main point was that programmers were evaluated by their peers and managers, i.e. the people who they work with, not bureaucrats. Second, judging a programmer solely (in an atomi

I read this question as an insult. How could they not know they are better at their job after 17 years of doing it? This is just my personal opinion but the true judge of a teacher's effectiveness is how much their students learned, and eve

I don't like 'Monopoly' because most people don't recognize that as a fundamental problem. In fact in the case of media, monopoly is assumed as necessary to provide you with what you want (hundred million dollar blockbuster films). The key

did you read the article? It's all about how a traditional market (cocaine) got disrupted by startups (meth labs). With the lovely side effects of proving the War on Drugs as useless as we thought it was.

I've seen this attitude before, when something new comes out and people complain about having one more thing to learn. It's usually older people making that statement. I don't think you have to worry about the young developers, to them (us?
