Yeah, I used to hang out at the NYC LW meetup a lot, it was a lot of fun. I agree that the second message is better in pretty much every way, but I'm not sure they're mutually exclusive in that I think they fall on different parts

EY is still just as involved as he was before, no? Vassar having left probably helps with the crackpot perception (I do not personally have an opinion on the matter, I just know that that's the impression he gives many folks). But gi

Do you have a source for this? I've worked on user data and privacy-related stuff (I work on Maps, not Calendar) and everyone involved took it extremely seriously. We sent PMs back to the drawing board more than once when we found ed

I dated a few (attractive/high status) women in NYC whom I met at meetups about things like rationality and graph theory, the last of whom is now my wife. You really have to actively seclude yourself to have a quiet dating life in NYC

I think the related but slightly more general claim is that you cannot update your beliefs in the same direction for both of two exhaustive and exclusive outcomes. In this case, if people disagreeing with you reinforces your beliefs, then

You certainly have a choice about where to live. You can easily live in a decent part of Manhattan on 130k - you'll pay more for less space, but have more time (shorter commute) and likely a better social life. If you're working

Sorry to be crude, but there is a very non-arbitrary reason for pink to be associated with females (and to a lesser extent, blue with males). In fact I always assumed this was indeed the cause for the association - I'm very surprised
