I'd rather be at the mercy of _relatively_ objective metrics than at the mercy of whoever my boss happens to be. (I happen to like my current management chain, but people come and go...)

It's not ignored. I don't know much about the German system, but I'm an immigrant from the UK and I much prefer the US system to the NHS, and I hear similar horror stories about Canada. Which is not to say the US system is

All kids are different, but FWIW, my daughter used to take our her pacifier and stick it in her twin brother's mouth when he was crying. When she was a bit older (maybe three?) she'd often give him the last strawberry or whatever

FWIW, I'm very similar. I find that the light pollution of a fully dimmed screen in night mode, reading light text on a black background, is negligible. (FWIW I mostly read in Pocket.) That amount of light doesn't keep me awake,

Star Trek isn't communist; capitalism and communism are both approaches to the allocation of resources. Neither really applies in a post-scarcity society.

Not sure I agree. Some propaganda probably just wants to rile up the base. It's also possible to change which issues seem most salient/urgent/etc. without actually changing anyone's mind. E.g. Democrats typically care

Anti-Foos already think that real primary Foo sources are nonsense (and they aren't the target audience anyway), and confirmation bias will take care of the pro-Foos.

As a free market type, I don't see the supposed conflict at all. A free market is more or less orthogonal to the legislative process. Free market types should absolutely want the legislature to be careful not to adopt laws which subt
