Can anyone recommend a good introduction to using state machines in code? Especially something in javascript/python? I know what an SM is and how it works, I just want to know how to use an SM library to actually do all these cool things.

This might work for web design. In my experience, it doesn't work well for UI design. The first law of UI design is that you will fuck up most of the time. Most of your ideas are going to be bad bad bad . If you think that every mock comes

Man, what a memorable post. I like to think about his main point of "people won't understand you" a little differently. Humans were originally pack animals, and it shows. You are nothing without your pack, but together the pack is strong. M

There are many similarities, but the nature of the products each produces introduces some differences. Valve creates occasional monolithic products that depend heavily on art direction and experience design. Google produces a complex, inter

For me, this should serve as a warning to anyone trying to let data do the designing for them. To me this screams "hey! Our data says 'X'! Let's apply it in the simplest way possible, with little to no editing or afterthought, and then bask

Here's the issue. No one cares. Well, I care, and presumably a number of other readers care, but compared to the total sum of internet users we're just a rounding error. You know why people are using services like Gmail? Because it just

I do a lot of Flash development. I would love to switch to HTML. I can't wait. I will probably be forced to quite soon in order to support mobile devices. But. I'm going to miss so very many things: 1. A decent display architecture. Every d

Poor Gruber. Your favorite director's movie used against your favorite company. It's impossible to post a serious comment to a case that is already absurd.

Original document here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/61993811/10-08-04-Apple-Motion-for... Gruber claims that "The dispute here is over one image" [1], but I don't think that's accurate. Almost all of the images in the document have been squ

I agree with lukestevens; there's a ton of value in A/B testing. A willingness to destroy your attractive but unusable mock is what separates the graphic designers from the interface designers. That said.... A/B testing can be extremely da

All right, so we all agree that software patents are a problem. So what do we do? A). Abolish software patents. Existing software patents, or parts of patents that govern software, are nullified. B). ??? Personally, I'm fine with A, but I w

This assumes that the customer has the option of choosing another service if they don't want to "opt-in" to such bullshit. Sadly, in many places in the US, especially those places served by the ISPs mentioned, that is not the case. In the a
