Eevee wrote about the industry mimicking Apple, and the downsides of that. It’s a great read if you haven’t seen it. https://eev.ee/blog/2016/04/12/apple-did-not-invent-emoji/

I like the idea of TypeScript, and am learning it, but am disappointed that we're still using build systems for JavaScript. I thought modules, HTTP2, and evergreen browsers would allow us to write just plain JS (like the olden times!),

I just requested access earlier this week; for work, I have to use a browser that uses the host's certificate store, and am not enthused to use Chrome or Edge. Safari is OK (not a fan of the UI), but no ad blocking is the worst.

I'm working my way through `Endurance: Shackleton's incredible voyage` by Alfred Lansing after it was recommended in another recent HN comment thread. I really like it so far.

I know their phone project fizzled, but I wonder if there's a market for a Chromebook competitor. Position it as a privacy-respecting product for schools. Introduce kids to the idea that Chrome != The Internet.

Yeah, any feelings of loyalty to a company are absolutely one-sided. They do not care about you at all; don’t think that “going above and beyond” will be rewarded.

Same here, I helped do recruiting for a previous employer, a healthcare tech company in Columbus, OH. AFAIK the other local tech companies are fairly egalitarian regarding higher education.

Genuinely asking (haven’t really been keeping up with Apple): is it possible to write software on the iPad for the iPad? If not, I’m not sure how you could consider it a “full computer”.
