Not sure if that would be a panacea for Facebook in this case. Aren't the privacy controls built into the OS?

How is this different than saying “if a company wants to make bad environmental decisions, that’s their prerogative”? Sometimes the government needs to get involved to prevent short-sighted behavior.

Your argument boils down to "people are bad for the environment." True, but not helpful.

What I find difficult is the lack of communication. Programming UI changes is hard work, and when a developer isn’t convinced of the benefit to users, it makes it seem like the change is being made for the ego of the UX designer.

I tried really hard to learn Perl/CGI as a young'un, but it wasn't until I tried PHP that web programming "clicked" for me.

I’ve been confused by the “share” window where the screen dimensions cut content off perfectly, and there is no scroll indicator, so you don’t realize there’s more to the UI.

I switched to hCaptcha on my home-grown blog comments. It was a drop-in replacement — they obviously have an incentive to make switching as easy as possible

Yeah, native apps are basically a black box in terms of what data gets “sent home.” At least with blockers such as uBlock Origin, scripts/requests directly from known tracking domains are denied.

I use LineageOS, which has step-by-step instructions on how to prepare your phone/install the OS. A list of supported devices is at https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/ , with various guides on each device-specific

I can't think of a good reason why Mitchell Baker should keep her job. I'm fine with competitive executive compensation, but what has she done other than lay off the people doing the work?

When I broke my Android and had to use an old iPhone, the background audio feature in NewPipe was probably what I missed the most.

Probably lots of tech folk who are getting older fall into this category. I loooove drinking coffee while working, but as I get older it’s giving me pretty bad heartburn. I’ve tried just about every other type of drink as a replacement, but

Apple's big lie is that their "curation" prevents bad actors, when historically we've seen that apps will track your usage, location, harvest contacts, etc. etc. even when allowed in the store.

Agreed, sync is a great feature, but last I checked iOS content blockers only work with Safari, not any other apps that use WKWebView. So stupidly, I have both Focus and Firefox on my iOS phone, but only Safari can use the Focus content blo

Agreed, to be honest uBlock Origin is the only extension I'm currently running on mobile, and "deal-breaker" is exactly how I'd describe browsing without it. I'll probably give this new build a try.

Nostalgia, rose-colored glasses, etc., but I loved the iPhone 4 form factor. Mostly symmetrical, fit in your pockets, easy to hold, with a bit of heft. And the 2x screen density was a revelation.
