I search for other, comparable positions, and see what I _could_ get if I jumped ship. At my previous job, I asked for a raise when I realized I was being paid significantly below market rates. They gave me a decent bump, but not enough for

What a bizarre advocacy site. If you need the subdomain, you'll use it. Otherwise, why make such an impassioned plea for 'www'?

Funny story: I tried to install Microsoft's Exchange client for Android, and before it let me connect my account, it warned me that my organization would take control of my phone's security policy. The iOS version doesn't do

I use my smartphone for some core functionality (maps, email, browser, messaging, e-books), but most of that is built in to the OS. I can't imagine that I'm too much of an outlier in my usage patterns. Maybe I should have tried a

I have to say, props for doing your homework. At first glance, however, you have to admit that "HTZapps" seems a bit dodgy.

That is pretty terrible. When I tried ( http://imgur.com/KCpdOFg ), there was a legit content snippet from USPS (with graphic) right before the fold, but the rest of the page was ads. The ads should at least be differentiated

Not to endorse poor working conditions, but articles such as http://www.slate.com/articles/business/the_dismal_science/19... provoke an interesting line of thought.

Agreed. The real question is, can you still get stuff done using it? Will other developers be familiar with its conventions? "Yes" on both counts.

Maybe it's my lack of experience with Bash, but I feel the same way. While I generally find most interpreted languages easy to parse, bash just looks like Greek to me. I'd be curious to know what advantages a Bash script would hav

I'm surprised this project didn't pivot into something more like ChromeOS. The market there, as proven by Chromebooks. As others have mentioned, Mozilla could have played up the security/privacy aspect of a "Firefox-book

I want to have an open mind about the smartwatch platform, but when I look back and compare my thoughts about the Apple Watch to my thoughts about the original iPhone, I find a few differences. Even in its v.1 state, the iPhone offered lots

I had a similar frustrating experience on iOS this morning. Clicking a YouTube link in Mobile Safari prompted opening the native app. I wanted to watch in the browser, so tapped "cancel," which cancelled the entire page load. Ther

That's a bit harsh, isn't it? While I'm sure some early adopters only get in for the "cool" factor, others no doubt understand that they are helping subsidize the technology.

Another interesting aspect is app size. These days, when many complain that the entry level iPhone only has 16GB of storage, it's nice not to have to install ~200MB social apps.

Hmm, not necessarily. Unless the user is careful, it's possible that many of those apps would request data in the background, etc., which would result in performance issues.

Even tech-savvy users (read: me) sometimes get bitten by that. I wonder if it would make sense to auto-disable iMessage when a phone's SIM is removed? The problem probably isn't even on the radar, though (iPhone users never switch

No, the goal is to have only _one_ version of an app, with a time limit or limit to the # of times it can launch, etc., which Apple doesn't have any provision for. IAP for content is the next best thing, otherwise you have to maintain

Yeah, from my experiences with my current company, standard language/framework == good, one-off apps that now need to be maintained in production == bad.
