It’s just super annoying that Apple labels these laptops as “pro” when it seems their focus is thinness/lightness. I don’t begrudge this on the consumer models, but the new MBP’s are so philosophically different from my older machine (

I'm very tempted to go down this route, but it seems to fail the "easy to install and use" bit.

What about folks who continue to use older hardware? This is a problem with the manufacturer, that doesn’t backport security fixes to older OS versions.

> That's just bad design. It's _terrible_ design IMO. Of course all of Apple's promotional photography show the beautiful hardware, sans case. But in reality, the phones have glass backs, and are not designed to withstand

You do miss the security updates. The trade-off is you have a device that isn’t dog slow. Today I tried using an an old iPad 2 that was upgraded to iOS 7. It was literally unusable.

The flip side of that is that Apple continues to provide software updates to super-old hardware. How many Android phones get updates for 4 years? However, I agree that if you do install that final OS update, it tends to make performance ter

Right, no one would care about telemetry if you could turn it off. MS could have it turned on by default, even. I'm sure the amount of data they would miss would be minuscule in comparison to the amount of negative press they've r

Samsung also has their own OS, Tizen, which seems like a hedge against Google. I'd be curious to know what it would take for them to pull the trigger and make it the default OS in the Galaxy line.

Paying means that the provider doesn't have to mine your email for keywords in order to display targeted ads (yeah, I know Google theoretically stopped doing this recently). So perhaps "your own" in the sense that another ent

Yeah, some bizarre asymmetry there. I'd have preferred they just shrink the top/bottom bezels, similar to the Galaxy S8 or LG's V30. I can't see "the cutout" aging gracefully.

AirPods seem nice, but the whole "10x cost" thing has me questioning Apple's "courage." I'll consider a phone without a headphone jack when Bluetooth earbud prices aren't insane.

I think a great example of this is Derek Yu's "Spelunky." He made a quick 'n dirty freeware version, which turned out to be massively popular, then remade a polished commercial version. It was easier for him to pitch the

Really frustrating that newer versions of iOS inevitably run more slowly on aging hardware, Apple incessantly prompts you to update, and there's no way to roll back. Sure, I miss security fixes if I don't update, but at the point
