A common theme I'm noticing in these comments is that the MAS provides value by 1.) allowing easy reinstallation of all apps on a fresh system, and 2.) mitigating malware risk. I'm very surprised by these opinions, to be honest. R

Is it too late for them to try such a strategy? It seems Google has proven there's a market for this sort of product. Or is Google Docs (etc.) an additional part of the appeal of Chromebooks? I know there's been backlash regarding

I'm seriously considering an x260... most of the components are replaceable/upgradable. Of course it's not as svelte as a MacBook, but you don't have to throw it away when you start hitting swap all the time...

Yeah, the value prop for the older (expandable) models was higher, as you could buy a reasonably-priced configuration then upgrade the RAM/HDD later. Now I'd need to spend $2k to price out a MBP with the same RAM/HDD as my 6

I agree with your sentiments. When reading about messaging and mobile platform lock-in, one theme that resurfaces is the "stickiness" of iMessage. It blows my mind that Google has yet to throw their entire weight behind a single m

Try the 3DS port. I ground through the N64 version when it was first released, due to a sense of "I paid for this, so I'm gonna darn well finish it," but the 3DS version adds hints/accessibility that make it a lot more e

I actually am switching jobs in a week; I was offered the choice of a 13" or 15" MBP. I do web development, so Windows isn't really an option. Unfortunately, I can't choose Linux, since it doesn't run whatever manag

The only hesitation I have in switching away from macOS is inability to do iOS development. However, since it's just a hobby for me (and one with decreasing returns), I might give it up sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure if this is Apple "moving forward" or simply engendering more consumer cynicism. Thin laptops are nice. But so thin that the RAM has to be soldered on the logic board, and you have to pay a premium up-front to get

I'm more bothered by the butterfly switches than the touchscreen strip. When the 12" MacBook was released, I stopped by a local Apple store to check it out, and left unimpressed. Better than typing on an iPad, but not by much. At
