Amazingly, they also offer official AOSP builds ( https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/latest-updat... ). LineageOS is also supported on the Xperia Z5 Compact. GApps optional for the privacy conscious.

Came to complain about the same thing. I'm not convinced the slight ergonomics on the mouse justifies making it terrible for left-handed use. I must be using the v2 IntelliMouse, as mine (which I've had for years) is ambidextrous.

Nah, that'd be more like if iMessage _was_ on Android, but once you used it there you could no longer use it on your iPhone.

I love all the responses about how folks are able to prolong the lifespan of their older Mac hardware (I'm running a 2010 MBP myself). I imagine that's part of the problem -- Apple sells more hardware if you can't upgrade.

Reminds me of a tech talk I went to last year, where the speaker/developer was trying to get on the Alexa hype train by building a "virtual doctor" application of some sort. He was very excited about the possibility of reduci

I'm using HERE WeGo, installed from Amazon Appstore. Obviously nothing will be as good as Google Maps, but it seems decent enough.

I love that there's a "See this less often" action that you can click on that content, which appears to do nothing.

Usually you can infer the meaning of the word from its context, but the accent gives English speakers a better idea of how to pronounce it.

I think the moral of this story is that Apple's hardware was _too_ good 10 years ago -- you could upgrade it almost indefinitely. The soldered components these days definitely make more sense to drive new sales.

Hmm, do you have any examples of this? I'm curious as I've been running LineageOS without Play Services... seems to work quite well, but maybe I'm missing something?

It was released in 2017, although perhaps your comment is alluding to the (small) iterative design updates that Sony gives its phones. I wanted an XZ1 Compact due to USB Type-C and the plastic back, but settled for a Z5 Compact due to Linea

Agreed; telemetry is valuable, and I have no problem with it... provided there is an option to turn it off.

C'mon, I love to rag on Apple as much as the next person, but if you've got the motivation to find Apple's bug tracking app and submit a report, it's not much to ask that you include some logs as well.

I agree. However, I do think it's funny that the one time Apple switches to an interoperable standard, people complain about it.

The reports of coil whine are really the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on an XPS 13. Played with one in an MS store, love the hardware, and I'm ready to go back to Linux.

Every year I see hardware folks write breathlessly about how good the performance of Apple's AX chips. In retrospect, seems like Apple is pulling a fast one: amazing performance, but only while the phone is new (coincidentally, when al

When I last had an Android phone, the Prime Video app wasn’t available in the Play Store... you had to side load Amazon’s App Store app in order to download it. Pretty much a giant annoyance.

Those are all valid reasons. But what these companies need to do instead is pay consenting users to engage in usability sessions.
