I think you're right about the decoupling. But I don't think they do it this way for press reasons to be honest. Apple is all about integration, And it makes sense that this applies to Apps/OS as it does to OS/Hardware.

Yes runtime is the better word and the JVM was a bad example anyway. There are much worse offenders when it comes to throwing away CPU power.

Just to be clear: VM means a language VM like the JVM. I don’t have a problem with high level languages in general, but the gains in developer efficiency tend to be paid for by the CPU. No I don’t think people die (although I wouldn’t be su

That’s an unpopular opinion on HN, and not because you can’t learn those thing outside of university (because you absolutely can). But because there’s a push by the industry to make programming a low skill/low wage job. Many are still

I'm glad I can share the opposite experience. We developed a B2B app which featured a maps module and some fancy visualizations. It was well received and a pleasure to work on. No porting issues and the Android performance was fine wit

There's a growing movement of people that believe all the power we put into computers goes to waste by adding layers of abstraction and I agree with them. VS Code currently sits at 550 Mb RAM idle. We could increase the performance and

I never argued that it negates the concept. I argued against the parent that 3D Touch is useless when it isn’t. Lag/delay is one of the worst things in UX. This fact is probably mentioned in the very first lesson on most UI/UX cou

I’m a firm believer that this is a failure of educating the user rather than the feature itself. With my next iPhone I will be forced to touch and hold, causing me delays which I hate. In hindsight, it might’ve worked to have the 3D Touch f
