I used to be very interested in education during college (stil am). One thing I found really interesting from the writing and research I did on the topic was international comparison. Here's a fact I learned that has stuck with me for years

Programming isn't that hard - why don't any of them want to join us? You could become a passable programmer in 3 years and there's no school admittance board you have to impress with test scores!

Amazon owns a company that has physical buildings in Texas, and disagrees as to whether that constitutes a tax nexus or not. Pretty easy to argue with a straight face! Tax law is a matter of technicality, not "does it seem about right".

This is a purely ad hominem argument. His arguments can be assessed on their merits, you shouldn't dismiss them because of who he is. And his central point seems to me to be pretty good: in a bubble like the 97-00 bubble, you'd expect newly

Jedberg was not on the founding team of Reddit. The founding team of reddit was Steve Huffman (spez) and Alexis Ohanian (kn0thing). Jedberg was their first hire after acquisition, though they'd acquired two other team members via merger (Ch

The problem is, fundamentally, that entrepreneurship is not something which can be taught in class. Skills helpful to entrepreneurs can be taught, but determination and mental flexibility don't come from school. You can't assign an essay on

As the gaming team lead at Justin.tv, let me just say that I agree with you that there's a lot of structure on GOMtv.net or MLGpro.com (they don't own mlg.com unfortunately) that I think is awesome. But when you sit at home watching Starcra

I support hellbanning. The reason you use hellbanning is not because you don't want to deal with complaints, but to prevent people from simply making new accounts and coming back to troll more. Does it completely prevent this? No, a very de

6% is undiluted, you have to assume YC has been diluted quite a bit during fundraising. But even assuming a more realistic 3%, those are great returns.

YC invests more like $17k on average, since most startups are 2 people. So your base is wrong there. You also have to assume dilution since almost everyone raises money. So they might have started with 6%, but they probably have more like 3

If chiropracty works, it would be a surprise given the history. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiropractic_history for more details, but basically it was founded by a complete crackpot and there's no reason to believe it should work. F

This is about using Facebook as your email account. Are you really claiming that it's a reasonable fear Facebook will somehow make your emails public? This seems like pure knee-jerk "facebook = privacy problem" thought to me. I can't imagin

I can promise you they barely remember the interview. After so many days with hours of 10 minute interviews, the chances they will even remember any useful insight you had is close to nil. Moreover, YC would never take an idea you told them

We're hiring multiple people - we've already hired two fulltime and one intern from this latest push. Video game traction has been HUGE for us recently. It's blowing up, we've dedicated an entire team to nothing but supporting the growth.

Yes, that's true. So YouTube probably has far fewer than 2k people uploading at any given time, since most people can upload faster than realtime (though some are probably slower than realtime). Doesn't really change my point though.

In the last 24 hours, we've had 12 years of video uploaded to Justin.tv. 12.17 in particular. So more than double YouTube :-) Think about it this way: if you have an average of 365 people uploading a video at any given time, you get 1 year
