It's not strictly speaking "standard library containers", but rather "builtin containers".

You'd have to use an equivalent of `void *` (for Go, it's the empty interface: `interface{}`). However in 99% of the cases the builtin slice and map data structures are enough.

Indeed, GL is not a Wayland requirement. The core protocol only requires the compositor to support wl_shm (shared memory). Some compositors have a software-only mode (e.g. Weston, and you mentioned KWin).

Wayland doesn't require you to use GPUs. Only wl_shm is in the core protocol, you can build a software-only Wayland compositor without any hacks, with shared memory. By the way, Wayland has nothing to do with drawing text, lines and ic

>macOS doesn't expose fractional scaling to applications, it is done by the output encoder by scaling the entire framebuffer. For software, it is strictly integer only. Wayland works the same way.

No matter how you implement fractional scaling, it's not going to look good. The reason is simple: half pixels don't exist. If an app wants to draw a 1px solid border, it can't draw it on a 1.5 scaled display because 1.5 pixe

There are already ways to do this on Wayland, e.g. xdg-desktop-portal. It's just that those clients don't support it yet. This is more of a client bug than a Mutter bug.

Note that Mutter already draws decorations for X11 windows. There's also a standardized Wayland protocol to make the compositor draw window decorations. It's just that GNOME doesn't like server-side decorations, from a design

If you use Alpine releases, you'll get older packages than if you use edge. In general edge packages are pretty up-to-date. Though, they do have issues with alpine-aports patches (alpine-aports is their package repository scripts). The
