Absolutely. All those contingencies are planned out and coded down in software.

It’s just people looking for something to crap on. God forbid those engineers celebrate years of their own work.

#pragma once is a de-facto standard now, and if it’s not in the actual standard then that says more about the failings of the standard writers than anything else. And there’s absolutely no reason to typedef _standard_ int types anymore. Not

Not much, really. Most sensors are low speed: tens to hundreds of Hz. Then you have some high speed sensors, like strain gages, that are up in the 30+ kHz range.

Because I dislike interspersing executable statements at module level with function definitions. I’d rather have all code live inside functions and have one main entry point for the script. It’s just a personal preference, nothing wrong wit

POD means you can memcpy without incurring undefined behavior, same as you would in C to copy a struct.

While that does absolutely suck, and I’ sorry you find yourself in that situation, it’s not a consequence of Obamacare. It’s just that the time you remember when things were better happens to be before Obamacare. As another commenter said,

This is literally not true if you live close to any urban center. Plenty of specialists available in any city. The US healthcare system is broken in many, many ways but "obamacare made me wait 6 months" is not one of them.

Agreed. And most of the people with these attitudes have never written actual safety critical code where everything is written to a very detailed spec. Most likely the designers of the system thought of this edge case and required adding a

Indeed it does. It was a notoriously fickle design to get right and for a long time they outsourced some parts of it to a company. One of the few things they outsourced. I remember you could find a listing on the company website for this ve

I think you are trying to make this out something that it isn’t. Visibility at the “cost” of negligible impact is more important than raw performance. That’s it. I’m a regular user of Linux with some performance sensitivity that does not go

Didn’t really get the point of the post as it just presents something without a conclusion. 9X% of users do not care about a <1% drop in performance. I suspect we get the same variability just by going from one kernel version to another.

It actually is incredibly human-centered, to the point that humans were made in _his_ image and the Sun is supposed to turn _around_ the Earth. But all this makes sense when you realize it’s a primitive human myth made by primitive people w

A more apt analogy would be: You are the captain and pilot of the ferry. And it is such a complicated ferry that you are extensively trained on how to navigate it. It is, in fact, so complicated and different that there are other ferries ar

Kranz, while an important character in the Apollo saga, wasn’t even an astronaut. I don’t know what history puts him “ahead” of Neil. Or even ahead of the other greats like Grissom.
