If you squint hard enough checked exceptions are sum types through other means: try foo() catch ExceptionX ...handle X... catch ExceptionY ...handle Y... catch ExceptionZ ...handle Z... compare that to (borrowin

Have to disagree on exceptions. The return type is part of the function signature, it’s part of its contract. If a function can fail I want to see it right there on the return type and be forced to handle it on the spot. Exceptions are an i

The Icarus documentary starts exploring PEDs and their detection but veers off into the Russian doping scandal. Regardless, it clearly shows that evasion is entirely possible with the correct guidance. I highly recommend it.

A combination of advances in nutrition, training programs, technology and, unfortunately, performance enhancing drugs. This last point is contentious but make no mistake: PEDs are ahead of detection capabilities. I think that at this point

Neat! FYI you are missing include guards. Edit: looking more into it, the header is rather unhygienic: if I include print.h from multiple .c files I break ODR, which is undefined behavior. You have variable definitions in a header which is

This might be an overly rosy view of history :) prior to 89 C wasn’t even standardized, and C++ was a mess until 98. And those are just the years that the standards came up. It took time for existing compilers to catch up.

I would say give it time, you can't measure Rust with this yardstick (yet), Rust is a baby in terms of age. Let's not forget that C is ~50 years old and yet having reliable, open-source, high-quality compilers is a thing of the pa

Same here. The vertical mouse has helped a lot. I've tried a few and settled on the one I liked the most. You should definitely give it a try. Be aware that it will take you a couple of days to adjust, just stick with it.

How do you persist files you care about? Another separate partition? This is an interesting approach. Do you have any documentation on to how it was setup? Also, how do you change a setting in your browser? Do you have to rebuild your base

You could bypass the screensaver lock this way. If the C: drive was shared over the network (and more often than not it was!) you could just rename c:\windows\scrnsave.exe and the process would crash. Fun times!

This is a very thoughtful comment, thank you. I would love to be a fly on the wall on the corresponding AMD strategy meetings :) I think to not focus on x86 right now would be a tremendous blunder on AMD’s part. And at the same time ignorin

AMD should see the writing on the wall and start designing ARM CPUs. I think that would be very exciting because they have the engineering expertise and talent necessary to compete against Apple's M1. I don't know of any other com

That’s incorrect. Raptor does not use a TEA/TEB igniter like Falcon. It uses a spark igniter. The green flame here is unintended engine ablation :) The chamber was melting.

If you care about telemetry then you can’t store it, you have to beam it back. And SD cards are a nightmare from a reliability standpoint. Nobody (in this context) would do that.

There is a (or more than one?) Vim plugin with fairly good support. However, it is not Vim. Most of the common Vim operations work but others are broken. For example, I've found the weirdest bugs when using visual block, especially in
