No, no. Can’t do that. Meeting aliens, or “gods”, was only the most transformative event of their history, one that shook their cultural foundations to the core. You wouldn’t engrave that for posterity and for all to know, right? You would

We will have true self-driving cars only when you wake up one morning, hop on your car and ask it “take me to work” and it will reply “don’t feel like driving today, you drive yourself”.

It is not either or. It’s a weighted sum of environment and self-agency.

FRC at HS level has become an important credential for Ivy League admissions, with all the downsides that come with it. It’s incredibly difficult to compete with private schools with almost unlimited funding, bankrolled by b/millionai

The principle of least astonishment in a little endian world is a big endian value? I don’t buy that. Maybe we are in the transition phase to where little endian IS the least astonishing thing to do :p

I would really like to try Helix and I'm even willing to learn it's keybindings, but I really need the ability to write plugins. Unfortunately, I work in a very "custom" environment where most modern tools have not made

Big, big fan of AWK. It sometimes feels like ancient, alien UNIX technology to me. But lately I've been gravitating more and more towards perl. You can write the same one liners (with perl -e and friends), it has superb support for reg

Simple, because for running Linux there are not that many options. And the X1 Carbon is very nice hardware. Also, with that mentality, we would never extend Linux support to new hardware.

My question still stands? _What_ aspect are you modeling exactly? The Sun as a celestial body? The fluid dynamics of the surface? The nuclear process going on in the core? You can’t just entirely “model” something as complex as a star anymo

You can’t use 90% of the STL, sure. But there’s nothing in C++ that requires heap allocation (maybe exceptions? But those are turned off in embedded code anyways)

Always is such a strong word, always ;) Human readable is very important to me. If performance is not an issue I'd rather grep through it.

Well, that's ok. Well-done CGI should be "invisible". I don't really care if the set is a set in the physical world or in a computer for as long as it looks good and doesn't fall into the uncanny valley.

Why should online classes be any cheaper? I'm not talking about self-paced, certificate only classes, where you never interact with a real human. You can already find plenty of these for free from any number of top schools. I'm ta

That may be, but I can only speak as to my reality. It is not actionable to me that in X country things are cheaper. I don’t live there and I’m not moving either. Also, I’m not talking about “expensive” hobbies. Almost all sports need some

Why are you talking about college? Having kids in general is very, very expensive. More so if you want to provide them with opportunities and activities as they grow up.

This is not the TLDR and the Anki worshipping is silly. You can’t use Anki to learn physics, or math. There’s only so much you need to memorize in those subjects, the rest you have to work through problems.

Was thinking the same… although Vim plugins are a crapshoot regarding efficiency. Seems like sometimes there’s just no winning move: either you have nice tools and no battery life, or long battery life but subpar tooling.
