This was one of those things where I know just enough to realize something about the reasoning is not right. Thank you for putting that feeling into competent words.

You can have infinite precision in pretty much any accurate representation though, no? Where is the advantage in using BCD over any other fixed point representation?

Can you elaborate? How/why is BCD a better alternative to floating point arithmetic?

I would have loved to tinker with my Steam Deck; it just wouldn't let me. Most of the time I was staring at some game menu, trying to figure out how to get out of there because none of the buttons/combos did anything. Skyrim would

I purchased one recently. After one day of frustration trying to get at least one of my favorite games to work, I sent it back for a refund. It's a great piece of hardware that still needs a lot of work in the software department. It&#

I was online during that era but "88x31" does not ring any bells. Is it significant at all or just some arbitrary size? What about the number of animation frames? 88x31x10?

A null pointer is a boxed value in LuaJIT, therefore not nil. But it is equal to nil when compared with nil. local x = require('ffi').cast('void*', nil) if x and x == nil then print("x is truthy an

This reminds me of a footgun in LuaJIT's FFI: nil is generally a falsy value in Lua; a null pointer returned from a C API is equal to nil, but is not a falsy value in LuaJIT. This means that if x and x == nil evaluates to tru

I love Lua, it's one of my favorite languages to write code in. It's small and simple, but you can do so much with the few things it offers. Really well designed imho. I also like MoonScript[1] a lot, a language that compiles to L

I have a 1920x1080 setup and my mouse cursor fits 1.2 lines of text. No DPI scaling or other shenanigans. I can read HN very comfortably at 100% zoom. Maybe this is the "adult supervision" thing everyone is talking about.
