What's a fair rate to pay an interviewee? Should I pay you for an hour of your demanded salary? So somewhere in the $100/hr ballpark? Or some nominal fee, the same across all candidates? $100 for the interview?

Unfortunately this is far from new. I tried fighting it for years and just gave up. Save yourself the grief. We already lost.

If you only need modest search functionality and you don't want to manage another service/system, Postgres full-text search may be for you. http://rachbelaid.com/postgres-full-text-search-is-good-enou... I read th

To be 100% fair, this post is a full 6 years old now. But also, I don't think it's specifically hate, it's more of a reaction to the overwhelming wave of posts here (and basically on every programming forum) from around 2014

This is a small anecdote. I replaced our family old iMac's OS with popOS about 18 months ago and my wife hasn't noticed yet. I'd rate her skill set as "has never and will never know that a keyboard can be used for copy&#

That's a totally fair point, and I realize my comment wasn't really in the spirit of that original thread in the first place. What I really meant to convey is that I dipped my toes in just enough to get familiar, and that was enou

I do recommend that new users just use coc.nvim, but not exactly because of what you said. Both coc.nvim and the built in LSP implementation use basically the same Language Servers, so whatever updates happen to the server will benefit eith

The 100% full reason for me was that I had a job where I needed to SSH into our prod server about once per month and tweak some files. I was so terrified every time I had to do it because I was afraid of vim and/or nano in those situa

I wonder if Consumer Reports has done this test since they tweeted this response and compared the pods to detergent using the pre wash dispenser. https://twitter.com/ConsumerReports/status/13410672702195916...

The problem with Robinson helicopters specifically (older R-22 & R-44 more than most) is their very low mass rotor system, which results in very low inertia. The time you have to recover is significantly shorter than other high inerti

This is exactly our experience with Youtube. I can sit with my kid and watch a couple episodes of a show I've never heard of (Like Bluey) and say, "Yep, this is a definite thumbs up. You can watch Bluey when you have screen time&

Yeah I can second this. The first distro I ever tried was Mint and I think I was on the arch wiki every day for a whole month. Wonderful resource.

I agree with you, and it's super hard to explain. But if you have the right type of project requirements, Laravel is unbelievably great to work with. I love other languages more than PHP, but for a real world, client facing project t

The most highly educated person in my extended family has the worst spelling and grammar of anyone I've ever seen. Getting a hand written note from them is always a guessing game.

There was a "Don Quixote" class at my university in the Spanish department. I really regret not taking it because there's no way I'm going to read it in my lifetime.

Gvim isn't really an "or" in this case, it's just a GUI for vim. Some things I like about neovim over vim. - Lua integration as first class citizen. - Treesitter - lsp built in - Feeling that the community is super activ

In the US, it is fairly dependent on which state, how old the signage is, and who owns the road. On Federal Highways, I haven't seen button-copy (The small reflective buttons on letters & such) installed in a very long time. Some

I had an experience with this (on a much smaller scale. No police were involved). When I was about 13 or so, I was walking home with a kid from school and he threw a rock at a passing car. He ran off and left me to deal with the driver.
