I can vouch for this. Ajay replies to my emails on a weekend. I'm nobody, not even a customer. He doesn't need to do that at all. I imagine he does it because he's a genuinely good and helpful type of person.

I think you're assuming tone that isn't there. Look at it again, it's a factual statement. Nothing angry or accusational. As you say, a little empathy goes a long way. Try to interpret tone on the internet in a charitable man

You're correct that not all relationships last for a lifetime. Not all should last that long. But neither should none. It varies, because people vary, and you have to both work at it and want similar things. Fairytales aren't real

That's way too cynical a view. It's often accurate, but it certainly does not describe all relationships. I've been married 8 years now and it's not at all like that. It's not a fairytale either, but it's a rea

A request per second per user is just bad architecture. You will need something like you're saying to batch processing in some way.

Yes, plus while every Canadian home has heating, not all homes have air conditioning. Optimizing the roof for the summer makes a lot of sense. We had a steep roof in the Okanagan which rose about 20ft to the peak. That extra room was proble

I disagree with this characterisation. Gitlab is losing money. They do need the capital. While it's true sometimes shareholder interests can lead to the users getting screwed, that's a very short term and dangerous game to play. I

It seems like basic sanity checking on the proposed actions is not being done. Why not? With safety systems you always want multiple levels of overlapping checks.

I'm under no illusions about HN either. It's my guilty pleasure, but it's also largely a waste of time. It's blocked on my computer, I only use it from my phone and I keep my phone out of reach when I'm working.

Can we ban Facebook under the same social harm policy? I think there is little doubt that social media in general is harmful to society. I wonder if it will be one of those mistakes we look back on as a society and wonder how we allowed it.

I think that's pretty firmly established. It's also a leading cause of ED.

The demographics are not a problem because of how they constrain the number of troops they can field - their population is still quadruple the US, so no problems there. The problem is the economic weakness that comes with a country where ea

I don't have one. Google it if you care enough. It should be pretty intuitively true if you think about which jobs benefited the most from technology and which benefited the least.

The productivity of minimum wage labor did not increase by that amount. It's largely unchanged. Computers did not do much to revolutionize productivity on your average minimum wage job. This is a major reason why wage growth is unequal

I don't think that's correct. Stocks suffer with inflation. Interest rates rise and money moves to bonds. Credit is costlier and profits fall. Both weigh on stock prices. Historically stocks perform poorly in times of high inflati

I would argue then if you can't practically build a propeller to replace a jet engine on an airliner, that being more efficient in theory is meaningless. I'll refine my initial claim to say jet engines are more efficient in many p

If propellers are more efficient, then why do airlines use jet engines? Noise? Reliability? There's a reason jet engines completely dominate the market for commercial airliners. Would making the propellers electric change that?

I'm aware. What I'm asking is why multi master is required. You can have a read only slave that is promoted to the master. It's that little bit of downtime during failover in question? Doesn't pgpool make that possible w

I just installed win 10 pro on my MacBook with bootcamp. I bought a OEM license key off a sketchy site (gamers-outlet.net) for 4 Euros. It worked. Should upgrade free to Windows 11 too.
