I'm sorry, but it's insulting that you think those of us who find these stories disgraceful aren't aware of the issues. You think the audience here is skewed? I think you are apologizing for Google where no apology is due. It is not a given

Whenever people get outraged about things like this, it interests me. I like looking at attractive women. I like programming. Would it be possible to have an event where I could program and look at attractive women at the same time? Or does

You're thinking of British English. In America, punt means avoid, and most people here probably think of an American football punt--which is the voluntary end of a failed offensive possession--so suggests you're giving up for now and will t

That doesn't really seem to agree with Paul Buchheit's quote on the wikipedia entry regarding the topic, where he said he "wanted something that, once you put it in there, would be hard to take out," adding that the slogan was "also a bit o

Wow. I do not agree with this at all. When I've heard this sentiment before it's from people who, despite the fact that they think they are hyperlogical and despite the fact that I think I'm hyperlogical, don't in fact agree with me on all

This thread stands as a testament to the strong pro-Google bias in the comments section of Hacker News. The bias is hard to prove, as any cultural bias is, but it's nevertheless a tide ebbing against every discussion here. The majority of c

I don't think you are very well acquainted with the state of exercise science research. There is no one who can credibly claim what the upper limit on muscle mass accumulation is. Our current understanding of strength and hypertrophy pathwa

Look, of course it would be nice for documentation. I didn't set out to prove anything. This was just my experience. I would like for people to believe, but I'm not selling anything, and I have nothing to lose. Was it 50-50 lean to fat? Wel

Yep, 25 lbs. It's not unheard of. You can do google searches to read up on some other peoples' experiences, but presumably you won't believe them either. You could read 4 Hour Body, which has pics, but I guess you won't believe that either.

I added 25 lbs of muscle in <month. Since high school I'd never been able able to gain much muscle. Even lifting heavily and being quite strong and eating voraciously the highest I could get to was 163 lbs at 5'11" when I was 25. Earlie

What a fatalistic article. Before taking the tone that this article does, I would need to see hundreds of studies suggesting that reversing overweight tendencies is not possible. It may be the minority, but legions of people have reversed t

What on earth are you talking about? Nokia sued Apple first after it became clear they weren't going to be able to compete with the things Apple was doing. Nokia was able to successfully extort money from Apple. Apple was taught that this i

It is an awesome list maker. Almost perfect. The auto syncing and having an app for every device are the killers. But, as a list maker, why can't I make lists in user defined order? This is one of the most fundamental things a list maker sh

It's not a quote but the implication of Locke's entire discussion of property in his second treatise. He explains that value (wealth) is created by the labor expended to create products. It follows then that wealth is not fixed.

It feels like one's opinion on this is fundamental. The way people respond to it seems more like built-in bias rather than reasoning by logic. For example, I believe I disagree with you at a premise level rather than a reasoning level. The

I read your linked comment, but I didn't find it persuasive. I'm no language Nazi. It's clear that language pedants are a pet peeve of yours, and that's fine, but language being fluid is not the same thing as language not having boundaries.

Why would EFF phrase it this way? Do we really need to make policy debates into wars? This sort of gloating is not useful. Google did not make this decision. People inside Google, subject to the same biases and ego defense mechanisms as any
