I don't go to my city council meetings, but am still a member of our local community. This is quick becoming a debate over definitions, but I think reddit thinks of itself as both having a community and also as having individual commun

You'd be surprised what percent of reddit visitors just browse popular or don't do specific subs outside the default. Most users aren't super users.

Reddits values aren't the same as yours. This isn't a bad thing. It's not like Reddit has monopoly powers. Some people want to belong to communities that have agreed-upon values.

I agree it's a chess move. But it's also a way for both sides claim victory. Apple doesn't want to change its rules; Hey doesn't want to change how users sign up. I guess I'm saying I'm more optimistic this wil

The madness I want to stop are ads for mobile puzzle games. If I get a button for those then I’ll love FB forever. More seriously, I enjoyed this exchange.

It's a fair question. But it's because the news reporting about it has been incorrect and has often suggested that it only applies to campaigns. That's why. I'm using reporters as a proxy for the public. And also, much o

There's info here: https://www.facebook.com/business/help/167836590566506?id=28... But that doesn't fully capture it. They also have definitions of social issues, which is a subset of this shorthand of p

That's literally the status quo. Yes, I probably favor that over this. My point is three-fold: 1. There's no education about what this actually means. This has been pitched as during the 2020 election, hide ads from candidates. Bu

This is a great point. Will a person who turns these ads off even UNDERSTAND that they're not allowing a Black Lives Matter organization to let them know about upcoming events? How will that be explained to the user? The advertiser mig

Yes, we should demand more from government. However, collective action by workers inside their workplace is also incredibly important. You should check out the Washington Post Guild study cited in this piece, it's quite interesting. Wh

All industries do this. Finance, oil, corporate attorneys, lobbyists -- I can't think of a single profession that doesn't build a myth around their value to the world.

I don't think by "everyone" they meant people who weren't aware of what flash was and users. Just the people who could conceivably be trying to avoid it -- creative types and developers.
