A massive number of Google searches end without the user needing to click through to any results.

This conspiracy theory presumes WorldCoin becomes a big enough deal for anyone to even care.

Do you think that's because those companies need to verify personhood and this is the best solution? Or is there maybe something else at play?

It's rare to find a technology that's so creepy & exploitative, yet also so fundamentally without utility.

Cmon who is saying that? Plenty of people believe in limits to free speech but very very few would draw the line there.

I mean, the point is about profiling you for ads. If you search "buy a car" and get car ads that isn't really about the personal profile Google built up about you over time.

Not sure if it landed yet, but being able to edit/disable individual topics was an announced feature. FWIW most ad networks already let you do this. Here's google's https://myadcenter.google.com/home

It's true the tests had false negatives, but they didn't have many false positives. So if you tested positive you knew to take steps to limit exposure to others. Not perfect but not worthless.

I really doubt the people putting cones on cars are "the same people" as officials for SF transportation agencies.

Is that compliant with Visionect's licensing? Their site says "A license is needed for every device." I don't doubt that it technically works.

I chatted with the guy from Visionect about this once and he said that it was basically all about scale. There is massive demand for the panels that go in those generic LED monitors and many huge factories dedicated to making them. The eink

It’s not clear that is still supported (or indeed legally licensed) or that it will be in the future.

To do the work of a red team. To try to break something in order to identify its flaws. It’s very common in English for nouns to become verbs that mean the thing you use the noun to do.

I don't think anyone is disputing that? Google isn't saying, for example, that you're violating CFAA or DMCA by blocking ads. They're just saying they're going to block you. That's their right.

Not joking at all. Reddit has had a self-service platform that lets you target ads to subreddits for a very long time. Why do you think it's not popular?

Many (most?) of the categories are not desirable to advertisers and the user base is hostile to advertising. A google ad that appears when someone searches "car insurance" is very different from an ad in a car insurance subreddit.

In what sense is it a gotcha that people with identical qualifications get fewer callbacks if the hiring manager perceived them as black?

Yeah but that’s nonsense. The Conservative majority wanted to get rid of affirmative action so they decided to interpret the 14th this way. That’s the point. This is judicial activism.

I don't think it's even relevant. Hiring practices that are based on class discrimination but result in racial discrimination can still be racist even if that isn't their intent. But more to the point, racial discrimination h
