That makes a lot more sense than the headline. It doesn't look like a serious attempt and is not well obfuscated.

If they can't explain the basic intent of the agreement in the first place, I'd be awfully hesitant to sign. Matt was just asked if the spirit of the checkbox was to keep out customers and wouldn't answer. That's not rea

Some courts have interpreted the definition of "unauthorized access" in the CFAA pretty broadly. That checkbox about WP Engine is arguably an "access control mechanism" since you can't access the site without checki

Do you think many users will mistakenly believe Gitlip is an official Git project put out by the same authors as Git? There can't be trademark infringement unless there is a likelihood of confusion.

Sure, but the anti-circumvention provisions in particular just inconvenience everyone. It's not like DVDs being "protected" prevented them from being ripped.

I do not understand your first point at all. I’m saying we should eliminate the step up in basis for inherited assets. In what scenario would that force someone to sell something? Yes their heirs could hold the assets forever and never sell

Or another way to think of it: your estate has to settle all outstanding tax bills after your death, including the gains in assets that have remained untaxes your whole life.

That's effectively already the rule if you sell something and can't figure out the cost basis - it counts as zero.

These are just generic anti-tax arguments. Yes, if you pay your taxes you will have less money. And maybe you would have used some of that money to do good things. Oh well. I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting you shouldn'

What would the owner have done if they decided to sell the assets shortly before death? Either they can establish a cost basis, or the basis is assumed to be $0. I don't see why this is a big problem.

Wordpress.org wrote a whole public post about why they cut off WPE and their reasons are just what I said. I don't understand how you can so confidently assert that the real reason is something different.

Of course it's retaliation. Wordpress.org said as much in the announcement - they don't like WP Engine's business model, don't think they contribute enough upstream, etc. And therefore they cut off access to the wordpres

Copyright law is whatever we agree it is. At some point there will have to be either a law or a court case that comes up with rules for AI training data. Right now it's sort of unknown. I do not have confidence in the Supreme Court in

Would you say activity on the web is getting more or less centralized? I wonder what the general public even perceives as “on the web” versus eg “a post on instagram” Email is distributed but either you pay Google/Microsoft to host it
