I think this is somewhat similar to what I often do when I need to work on something and never seem to get started: Define the absolutely minimal next step very concretely. Procrastinating on filing taxes. Next step is to log in to tax prep

I think something not measured here but potentially important is the amount of acquaintance contact people have. If you imagine living in a time before high-speed travel and big cities, the people you interacted with day-to-day were basical

I think there's a fallacy underlying this that if the warning is the same, the threat must be the same. Yes, people have been saying "beware the influence of technology on children" for decades, maybe centuries. That doesn&#x

Indeed. I'm reminded of xkcd's train full of people all thinking the same thing: "Look at these people. Glassy-eyed automatons going about their daily lives, never stopping to look around and think! I'm the only consciou

Rambling warning. I think there is a lot of overlap in what you're saying and what the article is saying. In both cases, coffee is a means to an end. In contrast, at the beginning of the article, the coffee was the end for the author,

I think you're saying the same thing as the post but in a way I worry people will take the wrong way. "TLDR, have quality experiences" is going to read as "don't spend $100 on fancy coffee, spend it on a concert&quo

Asking for camera access is not "awkward". In 2022, it's assumed that if I say yes, you'll record absolutely everything the camera can see, store it forever, sell it to anyone who wants it, and use it to show me ads for

The basic idea is that you can only hold so many chunks in working memory (which is a necessary precursor to long-term memory), but the more you know, the better you can chunk information, thus remembering more. There is a similar phenomeno

Just want to emphasize this. If you don't buy it, it's just going to end up hosting some form of spam. May as well put it to good use. That seems like a much more respectful transition.
