Commercial VPNs are often blocked too. I found a p2p vpn to my home network + ssh socks5 proxy to work well.

Lots of companies do this on their websites now using cloud flare or something similar. It’s practical. Still it’s frustrating as a user when you’re traveling over in Europe and can’t access your accounts to pay bills or whatnot.

While I agree with the sentiments, there is a societal need for gatekeepers in some professions. The engineer title often comes with legal liabilities. It’s not necessarily just about talent. Of course it often becomes misused as well.

See the neo-feudalism comment below. Land and even vertical farming will be controlled by nobility / corporates in the neo-feudalism era.

> Today, the poorest 20% can still afford smartphones and flat screen TVs, clothes and even vacations. Well 1940’s being a wartime era would be a bad time to compare to. It’d be best to compare to compare to just before globalization, pr

I’m all for poorer countries getting a slice of the pie. Long term I’m not convinced it’s beneficial for the whole population of richer countries to continue, but rather only the elites of those countries. The amount income inequality has s

IPv6 always seemed to me to be driven by a certain class of purist networking geeks. Then some corporations started getting on board like you said, but many couldn't care less.

Alright hear me out, a drone "cannon" that shoots the food onto the balcony. It's perfect for covering that last distance. Works best for food packaged in discrete boxes. ;)

Nah, one day we'll just have flat societies with AIs to replace the beaurocracy and elites and manage everything for us. Nothing could go wrong with that! </sarcasm>.

Well even docker only runs on Linux with some magic to make it look local. Probably the closest similar thing would be WASM stuff.

Nim is pretty close to that for me. It’s more pascal-ish inherited but has a sophisticated type system including case types similar to ML sum types and compile time.

The elites leaving common folk relatively alone would be a best case scenario. If people are free to build and supply for themselves with UBI then life wouldn’t be bad. Problem is elites usually want control. Oh you’re running small scale m
