My story: After my technical phone interviews, I got "accepted" as an intern, meaning I was in the Intern Pool of Rot, where I waded and waited for a team to fish me out. I waded and waded for a couple of months, hoping for a kind suitor. T

We used this at UT Austin, and it's a great book. It doesn't have a lot of stuff that you would find in a graduate PL course (e.g. type theory), so it doesn't prepare you to read PL papers, but building a lisp in scheme is a lot more fun th

Well, I'm not sure Adeona is still running. See the notice on this page: http://adeona.cs.washington.edu/downloads.html

You can hijack it in unprotected WiFi easily (e.g. firesheep), but even if it's protected, an attacker can use ARP poisoning to route all traffic to the attacker, and thus steal the sessions (and firesheep should still work in this case).

Is this high school? I don't understand these things. Why would you destroy your time, resources, and sense of humanity for this childish crap?

The truth is, I want them to succeed. They may not defeat FB, but perhaps they'll give us a legit alternative. And yes, I understand that it was a developer release, pre-alpha, or whatever you want to call it, but a release is a release and

All this high-level stuff is great and all, but honestly, after that developer "preview" release, I am extremely nervous about putting any personal info on a seed (or whatever they call it). I feel that they've lost a lot of trust, and th

I found most of my segfault bugs by a simple "gdb program". It's scary at first, but it's usually not that hard.

I'm a CS student. Do I enjoy C? Yes, I enjoy C much more than C++ or x86. But why would I use C when Python or Java will suffice for most things? Of course, I pulled out C for OS and C++ for graphics and robotics, but most of what I do does

This is really unfortunate. Can you point to threads that you thought were sexist? I'm really curious because it's sometimes hard for a guy to empathize.

First of all, the author of this piece works in Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology. Research is done differently across different disciplines, so it's dangerous to try to expand this to other disciplines. For example, some fields find a

I guess it depends. I worked on a 13 inch MB screen for three years before getting a 15 inch MBP. I am much happier with the 15 inch. This is mostly because I use vim with 4 to 6 split screens at the same time.

I got in, but as a student in Austin, there's no way I can afford $500+ for a weekend, even if it is Startup School weekend. And now there's a distributed open house?! I'm super bummed.
