Yes, absolutly, it needs to come from the top down as well as the bottom up. In a world where we give subsidies to polluters which artificially decreases the price, it makes it harder for consumers to make the right choice. If we instead su

It's not, you are completely correct. But I try to buy from companies that align with my values, I run my tech and things into the ground before I buy new. But it doesn't take a few people being perfect, it takes all of us to impe

This is why I find the "x% of emissions are caused by 100 companies so there's nothing an individual can do" counter productive. Those 100 companies are fossil fuel companies, they distribute fuel and petroleum products to ev

And yet i would argue that comprehensions and decorators are more readable and simple than wrapped functions and for-loops that append to a list. Having one way of doing something and sticking with it even when better ways emerge is nonsens

From what I understand they organise the hunts when a pod of cetaceans is spotted off the coast. Rather than sending fishing fleets out, they corral them into a fjord and slaughter them on the beach. In some ways this is better than fishing

I've been going a similar way. Data and the methods to act upon the data. But i also find myself writing in a more functional style too, limiting the amount of side effects, pure functions when i can manage it. It makes testing so much

My local bus company did this. 3 trips in a day? Price caps out at a day ticket. 14 trips in a week? Price caps out at a weekly ticket. Same for the month. It has a weird effect where I would take a couple of extra journeys just to whack it

while this might be true, the fact that there are master-slave analogies elsewhere makes other uses of master in CS suspect. if the analogy had been "master-apprentice" instead there probably wouldnt be as much pushback everywhere

I read a gitlab blog[0] where they mention that "master" comes from bitkeeper where there was a master repository and slave repositories. It does make one wonder, if there was more diversity in CS when these things were being made
