Ditto. I'd still love to see whatever tidbits are available if only for historic reasons, which in itself is quite valuable. Might be also fun to see a before and after if someone else does an up to date version too.

Thank you! It's quite frustrating to watch people completely ignore the fact that if a power and capability exists, it will be abused (accidentally or knowingly) for dubious ends. And those with power and capability seldom relinquish i

I don't think it's confined to just open source projects. E.G. RIM is now BlackBerry Ltd. There are a many reasons why this is the case, but chief among them is that usually the product outpaces the clout of the company/organ

It's important to remember one key takeaway from this. It still applies to offline hashes. That means, if your db is compromised, it's pretty much game over for your users (who will invariably reuse them elsewhere) if you used sim

I had the exact same feeling. It's tough to swallow failure, but I hope the students accept that the bar is high for their own good. Or else, going above it means little.

I don't think you were downvoted because you were wrong. I like to think the HN community isn't that shallow. Reasons for downvoting is usually due to posts containing no new information, excessive snark, flippant attitude etc...

Writes were generally quite fast so the next write rarely got queued. Also we ran it single-threaded. When we moved to Postgres, that also gave us the opportunity to safely switch to phpfpm without worrying about the lock issue. The nice th

Until 2010, I ran a forum on SQLite with 600 users/day + around 1000 posts/day on a single OpenBSD machine with 2gb RAM and 7200RPM HDD. We moved to Postgres when we passed 1600 posts/day. There was some minor slowdown notice

Thank you. I wish OP would have done the same with a comment. In fact, this should probably be standard procedure when submitting a link to a compromised site if it's not to a blog/news post about it.
